From TimesDaily, While the Lions lost a game with Virginia Tech, UNA picked up two FBS opponents. Liberty agreed to pay the Lions $325,000 for the Oct. 3 game, and Southern Miss will pay UNA $300,000 for a Nov. 7 tilt.
UNA is also sticking with the original Nov. 21 date of the BYU game, which includes $425,000 from the Cougars. Jacksonville State is also still coming to Florence, although on Oct. 17 rather than Sept. 12, as part of a home-and-home contract.
Virginia Tech, allowed one nonconference game by the ACC, canceled its UNA game. In regards to the original contract, Linder said the Lions are still discussing terms with the Hokies, who were originally due to pay $425,000.

I wonder if and how much VT has to pay UNA for the cancellation? Usually if either party drops a contracted game, they have to pay something to the other school.

Depends on if the contract had language of force majeure or not. This COVID-19 and schedule requirements from the ACC was out of the control of VA tech.

Wonder if we kick that game down the road? I really want to make that trip to Blacksburg. Not many schools have a better game day atmosphere than VT.

I'm sure MTSU also thought the same thing especially since they lost a home game but still have to travel to VA tech next year. I do not know the contract language. Liberty was such a natural fit since they already had them scheduled, and they are in state. ACC stated the OOC game had to be played in state. Also, Liberty would also have more attendance to the game on the allotted away team tickets than UNA would. I would assume that UNA is trying to get VA tech to reschedule in the future. From looking at their future schedule, they already have OOC games contracted through 2037.
