Was checking in on Gulf Shores this season and they’re 4-2 so far. That’s as many wins as the Dolphins had in 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined. Also, didn’t realize that Brian VanGorder had joined Hud and Edenfield on the staff. Found this interesting from one article: He was in the midst of serving a 20-day suspension when he resigned at Austin Peay. It was reported in the media that he was going to be fired, if he didn’t resign. But Akin said Governors’ athletic director Gerald Harrison gave the coach an outstanding recommendation. “Coach Harrison explained to me that Coach Hudspeth was not fired at Austin Peay and resigned by choice in order to spend more time with his family. He stated that he would not hesitate to hire him as head football coach at Gulf Shores High School,’’ Akin said. mulletwrapper.net/dolphins-will-have-to-settle-for-two-d-1-college-coaches-on-same-football-staff/

Without being a negative Nancy here, in all seriousness… is our job that much better than the one he has? Head coaches at the biggest high schools in this state may not make as much as Willis does, but I bet it’s getting close. Plus you don’t have to recruit (wink wink), and then there’s the fact he might enjoy living that close to the beach. And of course, just all around less pressure, I would imagine. Hud has had his problems, both personal and professional. But he’s still just 52 years old. I’m not sure I’d call him my first choice, because I have issues with some things in his past. If he wanted to come back, though, we’d be stupid to not listen at least.

No doubt he is a great coach and his current wife is from Lauderdale County Alabama. But apparently he had some of the same personal issues at Austin Peay that he had when he was here.
I saw the following posted on another sports forum board.
“He was messing around with one of the player’s mother and one day he kick that player off the team and the player’s mother went to the Administration and reported it.”
He was put on leave and at that time he decided to resign.

Edenfield would be a good candidate.

That’s a crazy staff they have there at GSHS.
I don’t necessarily want Hud back, but like I said, if he approached us with interest I’d say listen. Maybe write his contract with a zero-tolerance policy for any issues, on or off the field. It’s probably too much of a risk, sadly. The guy can coach winning football.
Edenfield might be an interesting choice. He’s never been a head coach in college, though. It would be nice to have some experience, but maybe I’m being too picky. He did a great job while he was here.

Edenfield has been my choice every since Hudspeth left North Alabama

If we want to win, call Hud.

If we want to win, call Hud. Yes Hud can win, but I’m sure several of the donors to the football program and the University hope he doesn’t come back.

Hud=No. Good at Xs and Os, no doubt about it, but football is also about building character. Talking the talk, sure, but you've got to walk the walk. Complaints against Willis start with it being described as a lazy hire. I think Hud would be too. Pretty sure any change that might occur would not be in season. Take the time to do the research and get someone who can build a firm foundation for the present and the future. Don't cut corners.

AJ Milwee would be a good young HC, too. Played for Hud, coached for Bowden, then to Bama a couple of seasons as an analyst, and now QB coach for Sark at Texas.

Problem is Milwee makes more than our entire coaching staff…we would only have 1 coach. I like Milwee a lot, believe his career trajectory now is to progress in power 5 ranks.

He is smart enough to save money.. Also, he has mentioned he would love to coach here one day. My list has him on the top of we have a coaching search. My top 3 Milwee Shinick (UWFs head coach... Don't know how to spell it) Will Muschamp (Will not likely get another FBS HC job)

I remember having classes with AJ Milwee, so it would be wild to see him as head coach. He's potentially in a great situation at Texas with Steve Sarkisian. This year might be our only chance, if his career continues at the P5 level.
What excites me is Josh Looney potentially having a lot of contacts in the coaching world. He's been AD at two D2 schools, but was also an associate director for all of D2, and has also worked for the Chiefs. The potential is there for him to have come to know a lot of guys who are coming up through the ranks. Or if he doesn't know one personally, someone he knows may be able to recommend someone else.
