That’s on coach. He should have fouled on their last possession. Make them shoot free throws...can’t shoot three. Have no clue why we didn’t want to win the game? Guess this is a learning process for both the players and coaches. Uggghh. Feel sorry for the guys, most of them played hard enough to win. I hope we are out looking for one post player...if we had one...big difference for this team.

When you are getting beat badly every game, not many people are going to show up. If I knew the Lions were going to get destroyed each game, doubtful I would show up. So that was 315 with a pep band....that’s another way to get our attendance up. Watching this team play so sloppy hurts on the men’s side. Get a 6 point lead, and turn it over and knock the rebound out of bounds...talent is there...maturity and post play is not. We have to got to be better on the glass. Agnew is fun to watch on the drive. I remember a number of times in the glory days when high school bands would play if the UNA band wasn't available. If UNA's kids have no school spirit, alternate between Muscle Shoals, Deshler, Sheffield etc. They sound just as good and they are thrilled to death, unlike the college kids.

The band would help...maybe even friends of the pep band would go to see their friends and just happen to catch a game? Hope that bitter pill Sunday has helped the coaches and the players in their progression.

I think that would be a win-win. Make sure they know the fight song at least, but otherwise let them play what they want. I don't see why we couldn't make this work, at the very least, for Saturday home games. My high school had a pep band ~20 years ago when I was there. I'm assuming others do too.

Was pretty sure I'd mentioned that multiple times on here and to the "powers that be". I was in Wilson's band in the mid-80s and we played as the pep band at a UNA basketball game. They sent the fight song beforehand and we were thrilled.
Linder doesn't seem to care.

It seems like such an easy "fix" for at least having some live music in the arena, while also building the fanbase and even reaching out to some potential students.

But, yes, one would think that it would be a logical remedy. These were all laid out to the admin. Still no pep band (for the first season in decades).

No... they don’t sound just as good. But that’s beside the point. It’s not that the UNA band members don’t have any school spirit. They have been paid for the last 20 years to play at basketball games. So of course, when that’s pulled out, AND the university hasn’t even asked anyone to play (according to a current band member), then you can hardly accuse these kids of any lack of school spirit.

I wouldn't expect them to sound as good as the POD - that wouldn't be fair to the high schoolers. I also don't blame any member of the POD if the university literally asked them to volunteer their time for pep band. After a precedence has been set for paying them, IMO that is a slap in the face. I'd be happy with the high schoolers just to get something playing besides Generic Hip Hop Song #7 over the house speakers.

If I lived in Florence, I'd love to gather a group of POD alumni and do it.

The high schoolers would be better by default. If we can get people who would be proud to do it, who cares. If I were in the band, I would round up like-minded members and play anyway. That's a lot of potential fond memories they are willing to throw away for good over chicken feed.

It's my understanding that a volunteer pep band wasn't allowed because they have no way to "control" such a group.

They've done it to old men recovering from back surgery.
