Junior Christian Lopez has been running with the first team for the past two weeks and the coaches appeared ready to name him the starter. Lopez, however, missed Thursday and Friday’s practices due a bout with strep throat. Junior Chris Weaver has come on in the last week, although he was still behind Lopez. While Weaver is expected to make the trip to Utah, his wife is expecting their second child Sept. 5, so his status could change.

Whew. A junior in college and expecting a SECOND child? I’m 35 and sometimes don’t feel like I was ready for our daughter when she was born three years ago. I hope Weaver can operate on a couple hours of sleep better than I can.
It’s bad timing on both of these for sure. I may naively think we have a chance in this game, but I’m not sure we do with a third-string QB playing. I *think* a healthy guy can return from strep throat within a few days if it’s treated properly, but I could see Lopez being weakened or at least slowed a little if he misses on some of the game-planning this week.

We are just hoping we don't have to play Files. Lopez should be good by Tuesday....young man better be strong enough after 5 days? Ready to see our guys skill guys put on a show. We have a lot of speed, could cause quite a few problems. Southern Utah will be bigger in the trenches on both sides.

Let's hope the baby is right on schedule, for Chris' sake as well as his wife, baby AND UNA fans. It is due four days after the game.
