Just trying to get ready for a Braly exit so checking up on the status of the "Bob". What is the Bob? Why,the new football stadium. My thought is Bobby Wallace Stadium, or Robert Guillot Stadium with Bobby Wallace Field. Whichever way you choose...the "Bob". Anyway, trying to find out where things are with raising funds for the new stadium. I know a site hasn't been determined, how many seats hasn't been determined, who will build hasn't been determined, etc... But gosh darn it! Shouldn't we be raising funds now for the "Bob"? Rise and Roar and build the Bob! Or, lay down and whimper and get stuck with the Braly. "Build the Bob"!!!

There was a story today that TVA has sold all their excess land on the reservation. Maybe UNA should build a football, baseball, softball, soccer, beach volleyball and track and field complex there. Keep the practice field and build new dorms or educational buildings on the rest IF we really want the university to grow to FBS level some day.

Dunno, looks like the land was acquired by some folks from Knoxville. They may require us to incorporate some popsicle shade of Orange.

Is this the part of the reservation where a couple of years back, the theme park to rival Disney World was to be built (LOL)? That area really is the "center of the Shoals". It would be a great, great location for a large athletic complex. My only other suggestion would be out in the Savannah Highway area, around Gunwaleford Road where the Florence sports complex is. Lots of undeveloped land out there and it's relatively close to the University. I've said it before, but my only objection to building a stadium on campus is having to make compromises to fit it into whatever space they want. I don't want them to have to reduce seating, amenities, facilities for the athletes, etc., all in the name of having it on-campus.

Ok, bored on my lunch break, so I went back to a couple of ideas I had on this.
The talked about location on campus is where the practice field and baseball stadium are. A while back I took the basic footprint of Braly and expanded it just a bit on the north and south endzones to accommodate for what we assume would be a larger stadium. When you do that, the footprint fits east and west (between Pine Street and Stewart Avenue), but unless you back the whole thing right up to the edge of Flowers Hall (and lose the driveway and parking lot to the buildings behind it), it can't fit without eliminating the College View church. I did a second footprint for Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, since I would assume we would want something close to that size. Again - won't fit north and south.
You can turn both footprints so that the field is aligned east to west, and they DO fit without even eliminating the church. I didn't do this in the past because generally, you wouldn't want a field pointed west and into the setting sun. But while I was making the footprint of Finley Stadium, I realized it is oriented that direction. Now it does set several feet below street level, so that helps. Obviously I hadn't noticed the sun being an issue the few times I've went for games there. So hey, maybe it would work.
The practice field may be a bigger issue. If you replace the current one, where does a new one go? Looking on campus I just have no idea where it would fit. The intramural field doesn't appear to be large enough. Do we still have some of the land out at the old country club? At one time, did we mention building a large intramural complex out there, or did I just dream that? Perhaps practice facilities could go out there.
Sure would be nice to hear some news on this at some point from the University. Even if it was just to confirm that we are exploring options.

They would practice on the playing field. The good thing about the new artificial turf is that it is extremely durable. I would keep the band feild in tact, not only for the band, but to be able to have extra practice room for football. I would also keep the band feild grass. So when we play schools with a grass field, we can get that feel.

Of course, that might take way too much additional money. Perhaps it's something we could do down the road. I wish we could get that dang nursing home to move. That would solve some problems.

Give it some time, we have to take steps. I know, as impatient as I am, I would love to wake up in the morning and see Flowers done, new baseball stadium on Cox Creek, and new Bobby Wallace stadium and JSU and Chatty at home. But we have to be patient.

But we have to be patient. If the status quo remains in FBS, we should be able to begin building some of the things we truly need. But with continuous rumbling about the SEC going to a mandatory 9 game conference schedule, some conferences saying they don't want to play any FCS schools and the P5 conferences may break away from the NCAA, it would seriously damage our athletic growth. If we had only made the move in 1995, we would have gone in with a 30something Bobby Wallace, paying a paltry $5,000 entrance fee,(we could have really used that $4 million for other things) and we would already have several things that now are simply dreams. Dang that national championship game!

Build the west end of the oval high enough that it would block the sun fairly quickly.

I was at the new Mercedes Benz Stadium this past weekend in Atlanta.
Wow! What an excellent facility. We had seats in the "Club Level" which is the center four sections of the main side. These sections have their own bars, food, and restrooms below (all looking through huge windows/doors out onto the sideline)!
It was a fun experience.
Made me excited about what a new UNA stadium could be, even if a 10th of that place.

I've heard we've made several trips to replicate this stadium:
Of course that is a nice indoor facility.
