Got wind that UNA will be playing in the Contintal Tire Las Vegas Classic in December along with Drake, New Mexico State, San Diego, Washington State, Cal St. Northridge, Northern Colorado, and SUI Edwardsville.
I don't know the format of the tournament, that's all the info I have at this time.

We would still be UNA and the media would finally be getting our name right. Looks like it will be televised. www.orleansarena.com/event-calendar/continental-tire-las-vegas-classic

Interesting. Obviously we aren’t talking power teams here, but for them to invite us in our first year... I feel like that’s unusual? I know there ARE a lot of these tournaments now. But, still. It’s a pretty cool deal.

There needs to be a correctness Marketing campaign with the sports world and news media in general. There is a difference between North and Northern, South and Southern, East and Eastern, West and Western, some schools the name comes before the University other schools the University is listed first.

When I was a nerdy teenager or maybe early 20-something (well heck, I’m not that different at 30-something), I remember writing to Rand McNally because one of their road atlases showed an inset map of the Shoals and had us as “Northern Alabama”. I know a few years later I picked up one and checked - yep, we were still Northern. It grinds my gears, but as you said that is a problem all throughout the journalism world. No fact-checking, little quality control, etc.

Since 1980, playing in the Pac 12, Washington State has made the tournament 5 times with one Sweet 16 appearance and has made it to the round of 32 three times. They've had 5 NIT appearances
Since 1989, New Mexico State has reached the NCAA 14 times with one Sweet 16 appearance with four NIT selections with three trips to the quarter finals and one to the semifinals.
San Diego has made the Big Dance 4 times since 1984. In '87 they lost by 1 to a strong Auburn team and in 2008 knocked off the mighty UConn Huskies!
Drake has made four NCAA appearances with three Sweet Sixteens, three Elite Eights and one Final Four. They whipped Dean Smith's Tarheels to finish third.
Cal. State Northridge is a former D2 team coached by Mark Gottfried. They have two NCAA appearances and are obviously looking to step it up.
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, a strong D2 program moved up in 2008 and has yet to make the NCAA tournament.
Northern Colorado was a decent D2 program and has only one NCAA trip.
A fairly solid field. I'm surprised we were invited. Maybe Pujol has a big enough name to get us jump started in D1. We have to remember that MANY D1 move ups was because of success in football meaning that their basketball programs were not very good and still aren't. Even though UNA hasn't been great for several years, I still believe the Shoals area likes basketball enough to really get behind the team which, according to the late, great Bill Jones, was extremely important to success.

This is excellent! These types of tournaments are what Pujol has to go for in the transition as a recruiting tool.

As a kid, I would send letters to Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, New York etc. Chambers of Commerse stating I was planning a trip to their city and was inquiring to see if maps of the city were available. I think Seattle was the outpost in my scheme. I was getting a couple in my mailbox every week for quite a long time along with courteous messages from the Chambers and all it cost me was 8 cents per city for a postage stamp. The LA map was huge! In fact it was THREE maps for 8 cents! I was so proud. As I grew up and moved around, the maps slowly disappeared until they were all gone. Ah to be 12 again!

I always enjoyed those Rand McNally atlases (their mistake notwithstanding), or local maps of different places I would pick up at gas stations in the days before the internet. My favorites though were, and probably still are, maps from national parks. I have a bunch of them in a shoebox somewhere.

Just looked over the lineup again for this tournament, UNA is not in the press release or am I just overlooking them? The reason I was looking is because I was just looking at the UNAPride Facebook page and just happened to come across it on there.

The reason I was looking is because I was just looking at the UNAPride Facebook page and just happened to come across it on there. On their webpage they have the same list as the first post of this thread, with some team named Rider instead of us. I had to google them. I follow a lot of college sports and had never heard of them. I guess Rider replaces us. I wonder why? Seems late in the game to make that kind of change.
