At the game Saturday that was the first thing mentioned by a couple of season tickets holders. UNA will not get the coaches or players wanted without a stadium. It is really quite simple. Be D1. Agreed with their sentiment. Coaches want to see the administration is behind athletics. Showing commitment for improvements actively states support.

Interesting name that came up last night when I was on a phone call is Ryan Aplin. Moved up quickly through the coaching ranks. Hasn’t been a head coach, but he brought some fire with him when he was here and I think the kids responded to him the best I’ve seen in years out of a coach at UNA. Young guy, but I wouldn’t mind it if he gets the job done..

It's young, but I guess you can't say it's too young. I thought he was at Western Kentucky, which is where he went after he left UNA. But apparently he has been coaching tight ends and receivers this year for Clay Helton at Georgia Southern.

I thought of him the other day and looked up where he landed. Just wish he had some consistency in his resume. He’s a job jumper so far with no head coaching experience.

Gulf Shores is 11-1 and heading to the quarterfinals of the 5A playoffs. I’m sure there’s too many “hurt feelings” by grown men in the administration for us to even consider Hud. Oh how I miss the days where all we cared about was whipping ass.

Oh how I miss the days where all we cared about was whipping ass. Who's left? The only way I would offer him the job is if he would realize the opportunity to be able to solidify UNA as a regional power... Not build and leave. The issue I have isn't how he left UNA, but what happened in Louisiana and APSU? Something happened at both places, I just haven't heard 100% what it was. The last thing we need to do is start winning and then all the sudden he is gone and we are in a bad position.

The last thing we need to do is start winning and then all the sudden he is gone and we are in a bad position. The issues at Lafayette were widely reported. Then he had a few down seasons there. The issue at APSU seemed to be “he said/she said” and the AD gave a glowing recommendation to Gulf Shores when they hired him. I don’t care about issues or the potential of him leaving. I want to win! We could bring in someone that doesn’t want to “move up” to a better job but they get to Florence and are mediocre or worse. I want to win. And furthermore, I want to win. Lol. About the Lafayette issue: Louisiana-Lafayette hit with NCAA penalties, to vacate 22 football wins The University of Louisiana at Lafayette must vacate 22 wins, including two New Orleans Bowl titles and the shared 2013 Sun Belt Conference championship, it was announced Thursday. The NCAA Committee on Infractions' ruling is a result of an investigation into alleged improprieties committed by former football assistant coach David Saunders, as reported by The Advocate. The University will vacate eight wins from the 2011 season, four from 2012, eight from 2013 and two from 2014. According to the findings, Saunders acted alone in falsifying ACT scores of five prospective student-athletes, per KATC. www.al.com/sports/2016/03/louisiana-lafayette_hit_with_n.html

Coach Hud is getting on the upper end of coaches in terms of age these days, I would hate for him to get hear for a year or two and leave us for a mediocre program. I would rather him stay at least 6-8 years if we are winning. Personally, I would want him to win several NCs... I do remember the Louisiana thing now that you posted it. My memory is junk these days. You know what I like about Hud? He always had some Gold in our uniforms... And he liked award stickers....lol

Coach will have to come in and completely change the team culture. No fight in the defense the last five games. Offense is ok, with a defense who knows? Strength coach also could use an upgrade. Our guys need some muscle, we have a couple that are built for D1 football, not enough on those sidelines.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind a coach building UNA up for 2-3 years and leaving for something better. That means that we’re winning. Then the job becomes more attractive and you get bigger profile head coaches. Just my opinion. I understand the other side too.

Yep, and I think at our level the coach who is content to stay in a job for 10 years or longer will be the exception rather than the rule. MAYBE if we found a guy with UNA ties, or someone on the downside of their career, it could happen. But if we hire a guy like Ryan Aplin (just to pick a name) and he gets us to the playoffs in a couple of years, he’ll be on to a G5-level job somewhere. It is what it is. At this point it feels like a .500 record would be a job deserving of a promotion.

Any news/rumors of coaching search? I understand UNA is small school and less covered, but there has to be some reports or rumors about some coaches interested.
