We're a week and a day out from the opening game at Indiana State (on Thursday night). The Sycamores are coming off a 5-6 season. You hate to say Game 1 is a must-win, but I think a win would certainly give us a better chance at a "successful" season.
Game time is 5:00 CDT. Although roarlions.com is not showing TV for it, ISU's site shows ESPN+. So hopefully watching will not be an issue for those that subscribe.

Unfortunately they had two players killed in a car wreck over the weekend. Hit a tree doing over 90mph. Another person killed and two others hospitalized.

Game Notes have been posted with Depth Chart. My notes and thoughts: Offensive Line is still small compared to other D1 teams; No starting lineman over 6"4. Other D1 programs have large tackles 6"6 or bigger) and guards are 6"3.. See ISU's depth chart Jaylen Gipson again gets the start again... No Brady Pope on the depth chart Young backfield and a R-FR starting at WR over Little... I've heard really good things about #1 Lacey Defensive line seems to be more athletic LB group has potential and depth; I expect to see a lot of rotation and flying to the ball Biggest question is secondary and where does Woods fit in?

According to those notes (page 4), we are playing BYU this year. That’s news to me! I get that it’s a mistake, but come on… can’t someone proofread before it gets posted? It’s two whole paragraphs that seem to be lifted from 2020’s notes. Not even last year’s!

Was going to be Gipson or Files the whole time. I’m sure the staff feels very comfortable with them being 1 and 2 with the experience they both bring. Both do different things well. I think some of the heights were messed up on the roster. Our O-Line is big, believe me, you’ll notice when they trot out there. Little will play most of the game. From my understanding they are making him earn his spot back from whatever happened last season with him. Held has mentioned Lacey multiple times in updates which is great. Kid was a 3 star out of high school, if he can play, lets get him the football. Trujillo and Woods were massive pickups in the secondary to accompany Fields and Bailey. We have a legit D1 starting secondary this season. Need Ossai and Bland to disrupt on the D line and then SOMEBODY has got to step up at linebacker this season. Period. If we can’t stop the run, forget about it. Fired up for this season. 6 days out, Roar Lions.

Files throws some beautiful passes, turnovers are the only reason he is not the locked in starter. Colbert as back DE from Hartselle actually not Cordova, really looks like he progressed as redshirt freshman. Guillaume needs to be solid and Dawson makes tackles. Womack is a Chris Johnson type, that will help with turnovers. Heard Fann is hard to block off the edge. Bedding field starting is interesting, he just hasn’t played much, but heard he is an athlete for his size. Behind him is a true freshman in Clark, know they have high hopes for him. Love Vang moving to guard and Watson to center. Our line play on offense may allow us to light up some folks! Roar Lions!

So is the Indiana State offense similar to Kennesaw or Navy? Looks like they are built for the run game? Scary opponent if that’s the case, eat up a lot of clock. Our possessions on offense will need to be productive, not a lot of opportunities.

Can't find a good meaty preview of them so far, but I haven't looked beyond the first page of Google results.
They seem to be picked 10th out of 11 teams in the MVFC. But, that's obviously the strongest conference in FCS. They might be middle of the pack or better in any other conference, it's hard to say.
The only player they placed on the first or second-team conference picks was 6th-year WR, Dante Hendrix. But almost all of the all-conference picks are from NDSU and SDSU. So maybe that's not a very fair comparison.
They supposedly have a "revamped" offensive backfield. Brought in 8 transfers.

Here's another note. They are planning a "white out" for the game, including wearing their white jerseys. So I guess we will be in purple (AND WHITE!) on Thursday.

Beat writer for the TimesDaily predicted UNA 24-20.
Said the key matchup would be our O-Line vs. their D-Line. Apparently their line wasn't very effective last year. Only had 20 sacks total. Sure would be nice if our QB (whoever it is) actually has time to make a play.
