Wish we’d stop scheduling this game every year. I mean I get it, but we need a team that can at least give us some sort of a measuring stick. Meanwhile, Queens somehow got Marshall to go to Charlotte for the Royals’ first ever D1 game. They just won on a buzzer beater! Their gym is small but it was packed!

ASUN opening scheduling was two different routes. Liberty, EKU, KSU, Jax State, and UNA opened with home cupcakes. Other schools played way up like UNF at Gonzaga, APSU at NC State, UCA at Wichita State, Jacksonville at Duke, and FGCU at USC.
Edit: UNF at the Zags, not Bellarmine

Wow. FGCU just beat USC in LA. The Trojans are coached by Andy Enfield who took the Eagles to the Sweet 16. Pat Chambers is their new coach and just beat Enfield in his first game. Wild.

Hopefully the ASUN can start changing the perception of being one of the weaker conferences.
Our home schedule is really bad this year. I agree about not wanting to play teams like Oakwood, but I'm not sure what our solution is. I assume most schools refuse to come play us. It sucks, but it's just how D1 is. I'd love to see us try to eventually have 2-3 D1 teams from Alabama or at least neighboring states in Flowers every year. We only have 1 this year, Alabama State.
I like the offensive output last night, regardless of the competition. But even Alabama A&M on Thursday will be a big step up.

Sorry so late...lol
My observation, while I agree with everyone about scheduling these teams, I was impressed with how we shot the ball... Finally...
I am however, unlike our broadcast crew, a little hesitant about our defense, they keep saying how we are a defense first team, well, that's easy to say against basically a high school team.
The team looks more athletic though.
FWIW, I haven't looked, but was told that after Liberty leaves the ASUN, UNA will have the highest paid basketball coach in the conference? Is this true?

I don't believe that to be accurate. From what I found, Pujol makes $150k. KSU coach makes $200k+ Pat Chambers at FGCU $350k. Driscoll at UNF is $250k. So I believe it is safe to say UNA is mid to bottom of head coach salary in Men's basketball.

It may be over $200k but still not the highest paid in the ASUN... $200k seems high. He's had 1 winning season (by 2 games in 2020-2021), and more importantly only 2 conference tournament wins when they had their best team and possibly best player that transferred out since Pujol got to UNA. I like what he has done with the program, much better than Champagne who was allowed to stay way too long with no results.

Waiting for our first game. I really can’t add anything playing Oakwood. No offense to Oakwood, but that game was supposed to play out like it did. I do like our roster additions. I believe we have more explosive offensive players. I hope we score from the perimeter, we will see. Post play should be better. Hopeful for now. Roar Lions!

Bellarmine beat Louisville 67-66 last night.
I know they already had a great basketball culture and a strong team in D2 when they started the transition... but MAN, I'm jealous!

If we win the conference Blackmon will have regrets. He was a building block that just sort of faded the last couple of years? I have no idea what happened. He and Ortiz could have been special last year.
