Look at that crowd in Freedom Hall!! Bellarmine fan base are doing the ASUN proud. Takes a lot to pack that place out. All the TV angles I'm seeing says they are doing it. Wow!

It looked great on TV!! They shot lights out too. That last shot got JU as close as they had been at 5. Now Jax State is March Madness-bound. Yuck. Lol.

I’m disappointed that Bellarmine opted out of playing in the CBI.

I’m disappointed that Bellarmine opted out of playing in the CBI. Yeah, it could have made a statement, I guess.

Thought they would get an invite to NIT, guess they set their hopes on playing in that tournament. Maybe the team voted no in playing in CBI?

It's not my place to judge them, but I don't really understand turning the CBI down. I can understand being frustrated at getting screwed by the NCAA. So, take that frustration and win the CBI to prove a point. If we had won the ASUN last year, I would've been happy with any kind of postseason tournament.

One article mentioned it would cost them $50k to travel to play in the CBI. But, I’m with you. They shouldn’t have turned down any postseason appearance. Instead, they whined and complained, threw a presser to complain more, then threw an ASUN champ celebration to basically complain more. I wish they had just shared their frustration and disappointment before going off to the CBI or Basketball Classic to prove folks wrong and let those great seniors play more. But, no. They made choices.

Yeah, I would understand if you were an older D1 program where post season is more realistic than a newer program in a mid major conference. At their position, I think it would have done them good to play in it.

The Gazelle Group runs the CBI. Each school pays $25,000 or agrees to play in a future Gazelle promoted event. Each school pays for the traveling and lodging, but the Gazelle Group gets the hotel at a reduced rate.
If a school doesn’t pay the $25,000 they will have to be a part of a hosting strategy with a powerhouse program, to cover this part of the deal.

I didn't know any of this, and it does make me re-think my position a bit. I can see wondering what the benefit would be to pay to play in a tournament that, let's be honest, very few basketball fans care about. I'm assuming Bellarmine has some of the same budget issues we have as a transitioning school. Though being private, maybe that isn't the case. So I don't know. I would still say play, but if the budget really would take a hit, maybe it wasn't worth it.

I’m surprised they weren’t interested/invited to the new Basketball Classic. FCGU got in it and Gumbart was on the committee for the old CIT.
