So will this happen in, say, the next five years? The foot-dragging is beyond ridiculous at this point. Sure, I get wanting to have finances in place. But loans exist, right?
Seriously though, I fully admit I don't know how it works. It's just frustrating to see ALL these other schools getting stuff done and us... not. And as we have said on here countless times, it would be nice if the university would just GIVE US SOME INFORMATION on how this will play out.

Because if so, I'm sure they made it a priority to remove it

If you ever seen the State Farm Insurance commercial with old guy dangling a dollar on the end of his fishing line and pulling it up as the lady is reaching for it; yeah this pretty much is what continues to happen with the stadium. This situation has only resulted in a lack of credibilty for the Administration, the Trustees, the Athletic Department, and the University. If you are unable to talk straight too and with your constituents but are willing to lead them on to buy time, well...shame, shame, shame.

Because if so, I'm sure they made it a priority to remove it I think UNA is putting up the money for the new turf, it's got something to do with concussion rules so they have to have new turf and some kind of system in order to now be compliant with NCAA rules. Was told today that an announcement about the stadium should be coming soon. But I've been told that before.

So, since the article came out about the UAC and what Luck said about the facility plans, I've done some calling.
The best I can gather is that they are keeping stuff hush for the moment. But the plans that I'm being told is, a new stadium built on the current practice field. Also a redesign of the baseball stadium and a new soccer stadium on the band field (if I'm understanding correctly.)
The band will be able to use the football stadium to practice and a new practice field will be put in.
I just don't understand how it's going to work for room. But apparently they have architecture renderings and can get it done easier all together instead of one at a time.
My opinion, the only way it will work, change the direction of the baseball field. Make the church parking lot, left field. If that helps with how I'm imaging it.
That would open up some room for soccer on the band field.
Soccer would only need a one sided grandstand. So that's very doable.
I would like to see the rendering though.
Hopefully they build a parking deck below Flowers and Self.

I think you mean make the church parking lot, right field.... I think the band should build a practice field next to Coby Hall which is beside the admissions building, or use the intramural field. Also, they could use Braly to practice on. I don't believe the Florence uses it as much during the week since they have their own practice field behind the high school. I have always thought that they need to buy that church. Offer whatever they want plus 10%.

The outfield wall would be the first base line now. Right field would be the current grandstands. You could make the wall of the parking lot kinda a sudo Green Giant like at Fenway. And if in the Church, I would capitalize on that by roping off that area and charging people to sit in law chairs up there. Or make a deal with UNA and let UNA do that for a fee. UNA owns one of the houses behind the baseball field, I imagine they can buy the other easily. That creates more room to build grandstands and concession area. I don't care either way, just want to know what's going on.

Saying stuff like "If UNA loved Florence so much they would stop buying property..."
They just can't win...

Probably misinformed fans from the SEC that is afraid UNA may one day play and beat their school. Really hope that happens in next 3-5 years by the way. They should move to those towns and they would be shocked at how those schools operate…if they opened their eyes to it.

IMO, I think you have a lot of folks that don't want to see the university grow. Maybe part of it is not wanting competition with the SEC schools, but I think the other part of it is just simply not wanting more students in town. Florence still has a population of ~40k. When there are 6k students, you can argue it's a town that happens to have a college. If the student number starts approaching 12 or even 15k, suddenly the students are a sizeable minority and you start looking much more like a "college town".
Me personally, I look at the (lack of) growth the Shoals area has had in the past couple of decades and see becoming a college town as nothing but a good thing. But I think you just have too many people that don't want the "riff-raff" they assume the students will bring along with them.
Long story short, the Shoals residents really hate change.

Every public university in this state buys property and builds. It's a business transaction and typically a willing buyer has to find a willing seller. To the best of my knowledge, at least in Florence, there have been no condemnations and/or imminent domain actions to acquire property.

Has anyone been by Braly to look at the new turf?
We have been fighting stomach bugs lately and been busy with baseball, so I haven't gotten the chance to look.
While I was at one of my sons baseball games the other night, overheard a couple of people talking about the new turf may have interchangeable logo sections.
The middle of the field will have a spot for team logos and the 25-30ish yard line will have a spot to pull up the plain and put in a conference logo.
Anyway, don't know the people, I was basically listening in on another's conversation so, idk.
