UNA SWEEPS DOLPHINS FOR FIRST ASUN VOLLEYBALL WIN
FLORENCE – North Alabama's three seniors came up big on Senior Day as the Lions downed Jacksonville 3-0 to record the program's first-ever victory in ASUN Conference play. The Lions hit .313 as a team in the 25-15, 25-22, 25-23 victory to snap a 17-match losing streak. Madison Ruble hit .524 with 12 kills. Malaisia Stallworth had eight kills and four blocks, while Jayden Davila-McClary recorded 33 assists and eight digs on the day. The trio was honored before the match as the first senior class to play volleyball at the Division I level. UNA dominated the opening set before winning a pair of close sets to complete the sweep. The Lions (3-20 overall, 1-13 ASUN) hit .382 in the opening frame and pulled away for the double-digit win. A big rally highlighted the second set. The Lions trailed 19-13 before closing the game on a 12-3 run. Christina Ellwanger had three kills down the stretch as UNA pulled to within two at 22-20. After a kill by Stallworth cut the deficit to a single point, the Dolphins had four straight attack errors to close the set. Ruble led the way in the final set for North Alabama. The middle hitter had eight kills on 11 swings in the frame. UNA again trailed late before rallying for the win. Facing a 23-22 deficit, the Lions ended the match with kills from Ellwanger, Stallworth and Joise Maldonado. Ellwanger also finished the match with 11 kills. Defensively, Emma Ellis joined Davila-McClary with eight digs to lead the way. UNA will host NJIT in its final home match of the season on Tuesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
