Soon we will have AA baseball back in North Alabama.
I am extremely happy about it, (should have never lost the Stars) thanks Huntsville!
In case you may not have heard, the Mobile Bay Bears will be moving to a bran new Ball park in Madison.
I am curious what they will be called.
I would like to see North Alabama or Tennessee Valley whatever as the name, not just Madison. I figure Tennessee Valley would be tghe most logical. What would be some ideas for nicknames?

Fun question.
When I was younger I remember wishing that the Shoals would pursue a minor league team. The long-talked about "tourist attraction" at Veterans Park? Good place to put a stadium. Have it overlooking the dam beyond right field. Invite boaters to float around out there, like the park in San Francisco. Ah well. Probably no chance of that happening anytime soon.
As for the new team, I assume they'll go for some kind of quirky name, since all minor league teams seem to be trending that direction. I hope they don't go by "Madison". Nobody outside Alabama will even know what that is referring to. Using "North Alabama" would be... I don't know. Appropriate, but would WE (UNA alums/fans) be ok with that? It would be strange. Tennessee Valley would be the most logical choice, or even a nickname like "Rocket City". But then, Madison sort of has a chip on their shoulder and I'm not sure would even want to have a name associated with Huntsville.
If they try to go by something the area is famous for, I think there are three options.
1. Space - obviously already tried this with the Stars. It's probably the most ideal way to go. I like alliteration. Maybe Tennessee Valley "Voyagers"? That was the name of two NASA probes launched in the 70s, I think. Not sure if Huntsville had a lot to do with their development. You could have fun with logos and mascots for that.
2. Tornadoes - not sure if this would be politically correct since obviously we've had people lose their lives to storms, but again, there would be a lot of ideas for names and logos. Tennessee Valley Twisters? Tennessee Valley Vortex?
3. Fish - Lately I've seen the Gwinnett Braves change themselves to "Stripers", and I'm pretty sure there is a bass-related name somewhere in the minor leagues. Carolina had/has the Mudcats. Someone more creative than me (and who knows more about fishing) could probably come up with a good name.

We couild honor our veterans and use Tennessee Valley Vets.
Or drop the Bay of the Bay Bears and be the Tennessee Valley Bears.
Play off of TVA, Power, Shock, electric, Current(that plays on both the river and electric power)
I like old school baseball, Grey Sox, Greys, Statesmen, Valleymen

I do like the idea of a retro-style name.
Thankfully it sounds like there will be a lot of things to do surrounding the new stadium. Joe Davis is/was a miserable place to go for a game. That Margaritaville hotel planned to go in center field will definitely set it apart from other places.

I wonder how much season tickets will cost? I may be the only person I know that loves minor league baseball.

Kinda flows better than the other options.

I just voted for the name of the new ball team. My vote North Alabama Trash Pandas Kinda flows better than the other options. I’ve literally never heard that as a slang word for “raccoon”. Am I missing something there? I know the minor league teams like to come up with unique mascots, but to me that’s a pretty bad list. What in the world did they throw out if those are the finalists? If I have to choose, I’d say probably Comet Jockeys or Space Chimps. My money is on Army Ants being the winner, though. I don’t really like it, but a lot of people will vote for it because of the military connection. That being said, I’m guessing the owners can fudge the results any way they want if the vote doesn’t turn out the way they want.

Lot of folks in Madison seem not too happy with the names. Some plan to have a formal protest near the site. Never heard a raccoon referred to as a trash panda. Many are now hoping the team name will not be preceded by the Madison city name. Reckon I could live with Moon Possums. After all we did get to the moon and this area had a lot to do with that. Also, who around these parts, has not seen an opossum skittering across the road at night? This here be the land o the opossum.

I don't really care about anything other than the first part of the name, hopefully they will go with North Alabama, keep it a regional deal and more people will probably be willing to show sort of ownership in it. In Madison, they are basically in the middle of North Alabama.

How about we do a message board meet and greet at a ballgame with the new team?
