The ladies had their last shot at a national championship but couldn't pull it off. You gotta believe Ivy Wallen would have been worth at least two points if not 20. So sad she was injured. And for those who would say: If we stayed in D2 we would have another shot...WRONG. If we stayed in D2 we wouldn't have the Wallens, Panetti and a few more.
I know injuries are part of the game but just DANG! I'M having trouble remembering a more devastating blow to either of our baketball prorams.

I hate it, but we need to look at what was accomplished and appreciate it. The team is relatively young, and great competitors. I feel like they can take the A-Sun by surprise. Or they have already been scouting UNA and maybe it won't be a surprise.

But we'll never get another shot at a national championship for the ladies. Just so unfortunate. The only other comparable situation was starting forward Mike Jemison leaving an undefeated UNA squad halfway through the 76-77 season.
The Lions still made it to the Final Four but played terribly and lost in the first game. Jemison was a rangy 6-7 shot blocker with a nice offensive game but i dont know if he could have made a difference that night. Coach Jones said we played like scared country boys in the big city. The next night they played like Lions and blew out Sacred Heart who left for D1 a couple of years later.
Afterward, UT-Chattanooga won the championship in their last game in D2. If UNA had played up to their potential, it would have been fun to see how 6-8 Wayne Golden and the Mocs would have fared against the suffocating defense of the young Lions.

National title? They didn't even make a run at the conference tournament title.
The Wallens wanted to stay close to home is the reason they chose UNA.
I get it though. I'm also disappointed knowing they're only sophomores but won't have any more shots at a national title.

What tournaments can UNA participate in during the transition? I know none in football, but all other teams will compete for ASUN titles immediately. Any other post-season opps?

Will they get to play in preseason tournaments? That's not nearly as good as post season but it could lead to some interesting games.

I'm also disappointed knowing they're only sophomores but won't have any more shots at a national title. They would have had a legitimate shot if Ivy hadn't gotten hurt. Even without her 19 or 20 points and 14 or 15 assists and 6 or 7 steals, we only lost to the team who will probably win it all by one point, ON THE ROAD so we had a shot but we will never have another. That's why I chose that title. I think the biggest reason the Wallen's signed with UNA was they could play D1 without leaving home. Without D1, they probably would have chosen a different route. I'm sure Ivy and Emma probably received some D1 offers.

I think an offer for all three was the key. UNA is lucky and definitely should be proud of a record-setting season. I'm eager to see who she pulls in during the off-season. Only had one senior on the team. Winning the ASUN before they graduate would be pretty awesome.

Turns out there was probably no opportunity to win the national title. Ashland looks unbeatable on a 2-season winning streak.
Union got bested by a good Central Missouri team last night.
