Just trying to put together 2k19 schedule by what we know and don't know. We know (unless it's changed) We play Montana, A&M, Western Illinois, plus the whole Big South schedule. What we don't know is of either Southern Utah is home and home. Or Incarnate Word is home and home. If not replace with JSU.... Assuming one is, we can put this together @ Montana A&M in Florence S.Utah or Incarnate Word in Florence @ Monmouth# Western Illinois in Florence @ Gardner Webb# Presbyterian# in Florence @ Charleston Southern# Campbell# in Florence @ Hampton# KSU# in Florence (#) Big South games Don't know home and away on most the Big South scheduling but I figure Campbell will come to us. I'm sure that the KSU/UNA game will be pitched as a rivalry. And hopefully it will develop. Hopefully we have JSU....... Maybe Western Illinois or Montana can be our long distance rivalry, and play home and home every year. Would be nice to have 3 OOC games you don't have to find every year. (JSU,A&M, and ) (Just not Samford, or Tenn. Martin)

I actually would like to see an all-sports rivalry develop between the two. Call it the "Tennessee River Showdown" or something, I'm sure someone smarter than me could think of something catchy. From downtown here, I can make it to Florence in 3 hours, so it's not at all a bad trip for our fans (it's the same distance to Jacksonville, Alabama). Something I would like to see us do is hit up schools that are closest to our alumni. I have no sources on this, but I would assume that outside of the Shoals our biggest number of alumni are in Huntsville, Birmingham, and maybe Nashville. We already have A&M on the schedule, so Huntsville is covered. I'd like to see us try for Samford and maybe Tennessee State in the next few years, or maybe Austin Peay since Clarksvillle isn't too far of a drive from Nashville. I would imagine there are some folks in those cities that haven't been to a UNA game since leaving Florence. If we're playing just down the street, they might be willing to come out and see a game and have that interest sparked again. I do like the marquee games against top FCS schools, since it helps get our name out there to people that aren't familiar with D2. But the regional games are the ones I'm most excited about.

I also forgot about Jackson State. Don't know if that's one and done or home and home.

I was on board with Chattanooga being an all sports rivalry until I realized they don't play baseball. Call me old fashioned but, I love baseball, and that could have been fun. Why no baseball Chatty?

From what I've heard, the lack of baseball is/was simply a Title IX issue. I've had a couple of UTC alums tell me that in the past they DID have baseball, but I guess it was forced to be eliminated at some point in time. Definitely a shame. They do have a softball team, however (with a pretty nice stadium). And are usually better in women's basketball than men's. Football suffered this year after the loss of their head coach last season to Richmond, but they had been a solid 8/9 win squad for several years before that. I think we would be competitive with UTC in most sports right away.

My choice would be Alabama A&M, Jacksonville State, Tennessee State, UT-Chattanooga. I don’t think any school will be on a continuous basis. Those will probably want to change every so often. Schools like that need to be in the same conference. That’s why I posted on the D2 for the past several years that certain schools need to be in a new conference together.

After what happened to AP not making the playoffs, I think it would be wise for FCS schools to limit FBS pay games to 1 a year or less. It would then be more wise to schedule OOC games like I was saying. UNA vs A&M every year UNA vs JSU every year UNA vs Montana every year. Kind like USC vs ND, on a FCS level. Would not have to worry about finding schools, or being left out of the playoffs because of not enough FCS games.

It seems like the problem is when a player gets on base either by a hit or a walk the picture try’s to pick that runner off of the base. I believe two years ago a picture made more throws to first base than to home plate. Since softball has seven innings I’ll Use the following: if softball and baseball started at the same time it would normally take baseball around 30 to 45 minutes longer to complete seven innings.

On Austin Peay's situation - is that similar to how a time or two when we played Jacksonville State, our "strength of schedule" for seeding the D2 playoffs actually took a hit? In other words, playing FBS schools either count negatively or just create a "void" in your schedule, so to speak? I've heard a little about their argument but don't know all the details.
As for baseball, I used to really love the sport, and still enjoy going to games. I just don't enjoy WATCHING as much nowadays. I hate to blame it on society, but I think our fast-paced lives make it difficult to sit down and watch a baseball game and really analyze what's happening. It's a game where you get the most enjoyment if you're a stats geek, and not a lot of people have patience for that anymore (at least it seems). I feel like softball is actually starting to gain some ground in fandom as parents are having their daughters play it more and more. Plus, as you alluded, the action is faster and the games are shorter.

I'm different about baseball, I understand it's not as fast, that's kinda why I love it. I think some things are sacred and should not be changed.
But as far as throwing to first on pickoff moves, they could limit the amount of times to throw over. If you exceed the limit, runner automatically advances.
Then put time on both the pitcher and hitter. The hitter has to be in the box in say 5 seconds at beginning of bat and between pitches.
Limit number of pitchers in a game, if you can't get it done with the starter, you get 1 reliever, After that, you only get another on if you have injuries or extra innings.

UAB: Source tells FootballScoop Bill Clark’s extension with UAB (which was pending Board approval) has now been finalized and signed. Clark has his Blazers bowl eligible in year one back from the dead. Impressive things happening in Birmingham.

I sometimes forget about FootballScoop. Cool site.
Looks like Montana is going back to a previous successful coach.
Montana (FCS): The school has announced that head coach Bob Stitt’s contract will not be renewed for the 2018 season. Stitt went 21-14 in three season, missing the FCS playoffs the past two years.
Montana (FCS): Sources in the profession tell FootballScoop former Montana head coach Bobby Hauck is a candidate to return. Hauck served as head coach for the Grizzlies from 2003 – 2009, averaging over 11 wins per year (never with less than 8 wins), twice taking them to the FCS Championship game. Hauck then went on to serve as head coach at UNLV for five seasons. He currently serves as special teams coordinator at San Diego State.

I would also love a new FBS conference in the future that consists of a core Alabama group. UNA JSU UAB USA Troy Then throw in a number of regional schools from Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Georgia, maybe Florida. I would put A&M and Bama State in too, but I don't know how they would feel losing the Classic games they would have to give up in FBS.

It’ll be interesting to see where conferences are in 10 or 15 years. All the realignment over the past few years was driven by TV markets, and having that conference footprint in new states so that the SEC Network, Big 10 Network, etc., would be available to more people. But I think with more people getting rid of their traditional cable packages, all of that will be a moot point. I live in Tennessee, but with my Hulu TV service I get the Big 10 Network. So it’s not like they’d ever need a school in TN to reach me. I really, really wish we’d move back towards conferences driven by geography and rivals rather than TV dollars. Perhaps if fewer and fewer people go to games due to them all being televised, we’ll see the trend reverse back to playing teams that are geographically closer to increase physical attendance again.
