For as long as I can remember, and that's quite a while, purple and gold have always been the primary colors. This was the case back in '74, before and after the school changed its name from Florence State University to the University of North Alabama. I think the color white is a given, at just about any school, as an accent color. Schools which use white as one of their primaries probably miss out on apparel sales as many like to have shirts, hats, etc of each primary color. Saying gold is not one of UNA's primary...well that's just fake news. I have not heard anyone saying Gold isn’t a school color, but it seems like it is being use less and less. On most of the uniforms the biggest part of gold is on the “lion head.” Even on the white uniforms if you are going to have purple shouldn’t you have the same percentage of gold and vice versa. Even on the School and Athletic Twitter sites on Certain days they say wear you purple. It is never mentioned to wear your purple and gold.

That's because they are stupid and/or have an agenda.

That's because they are stupid and/or have an agenda. My question is just... why? What could possibly be the motivation for trying to wipe out one of our colors? It’s not like the fans were clamoring for a change. If you have Linder or whoever in the AD saying that they can’t find evidence that gold is a school color (which is so asinine it has to be a purposeful statement), it makes me think that he (Linder), someone nearly as high up in the department, or maybe even a higher authority (Kitts?) is pushing this. Does it simply come down to someone powerful not liking gold? A significant amount of money saved by eliminating it? Something else? Hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but it sure seems something strange is afoot...

They may just have the (that's the way it has been) attitude. Let's just start making it clear that the Gold has to stay. Don't have to be 50-50 with Purple, but it HAS to be more than Grey or Black.

The first REAL evidence I can remember, when I said something like "Shouldn't that include some gold?", was the paw prints on Court Street. They were first painted, what... 10 years ago? I remember questioning at the time why they weren't outlined in gold.
That's not to say there wasn't examples before that.

I know who started it. I just haven't brought it up out of respect for what he did at UNA. I asked Bobby early in his tenure where the gold went. He said he didn't want any damn yella anywhere on his teams' uniforms and by golly, that's exactly what happened. I hoped when he left the first time we would go back to gold. I didn't see a single game in 1999, 2000, 2001 or 2002 so I don't know about those years but Hud didn't bring back the gold and it's been that way ever since. This Leo is at least 50 years old so I know darn well anything that's been around that long wasn't just a whim. That's the 60s era gold.

Man, that lion figure is AWESOME. It seems like older merchandise like that is so hard to find, let alone something from the pre-UNA era. And I guess I'm a hypocrite, but I always loved the championship uniforms, despite it being true that there wasn't a lot of gold. We did have it on the arm stripes. With all due respect to Coach Wallace, and I love the guy, but the argument of not wearing yellow because it's for "cowards" or whatever is about the dumbest thing in the world. The Green Bay Packers have always pulled off yellow pretty well. There's not a ton of yellow/gold here, but I love this uniform: You can swap out the white pants for purple or even gold if you desire. And even though I don't think they were worn together, this helmet is great and would be my choice for another throwback:

I remember when my cousin played, the uniforms looked just like LSU. Same scheme but instead of LSU and a tiger, it was UNA and a Lion head. Don't remember what year that was though.

One of UNA's most successful pro players, the late Shawn Lee, sporting THE UNA colors. Shawn played for UNA in '87 and '88 I believe.

I was just a little too young to remember those uniforms, but yeah... those are great.
I would LOVE to see a pair of gold pants with our current uniforms, which I think look pretty good despite the lack of gold. Not holding my breath though.

If you really want a throw back that would still look great today, the 50's and 60's helmets were Gold with 1 purple stripe down the middle. (My opinion, should be the UNA standard.) And it was Gold not yellow.

It’s a shame we didn’t honor our D2 years this past season and do a throwback from a different era for each home game. Realistically I doubt the AD could (or would) afford that many different uniform sets, and obviously there was bad timing for that with the new adidas deal. It would have been fun though.
We could have definitely left out the early Hudspeth Reebok uniforms though. Woof, those were bad. Almost a lavender purple on the jerseys, bluish purple helmets, stripes everywhere...

Even the paw prints on Court Street are only purple and white. One almost has to say that the absence of gold appears to be deliberate.

I'm thinking about having shirts made up to protest the issue. Anyone who wants one, let me know. First I need some ideas on what they would say.
My only idea at this time is a purple shirt with grey letters saying "Where did the Gold Go?"
Please share some ideas. And it would be nice to were them to ALL sporting events you can attend to make a point. And make sure any UNA official, especially Kitts and Linder see them.
