With Liberty and Jax State’s eliminations from the conference baseball tournament today, they have officially wrapped up participation in the ASUN. Liberty has been a beast ever since we both joined the ASUN in the same season. I think they will do very will in CUSA in every sport. Jax State will likely compete well, too, but not like the Flames.
As a Lions fan, I’m not sad to see them go especially Liberty with their budget.

Won't miss Liberty. They reminded me of West Florida in their dominance in all sports.

Really miss JSU rivalry…guess we got to beat them again before JSU will call it a rivalry.

I know a lot of people don't care for Liberty, and some of its deserved. But Liberty did bring a lot to the table. Wish they would have stayed indy in football and with the ASUN personally. But whatever. I agree, Liberty will be the dominant force in CUSA.

Really miss JSU rivalry…guess we got to beat them again before JSU will call it a rivalry. We need to make rivals elsewhere. Hopefully we can keep a home and home with Chattanooga and they become our noncon football rival. As for in conference, between football and basketball, EKU and UNA got kinda intense our first season with each other. UCA will always be fun. And I think UNA and APSU will become very big rivals. Unless I looked at something wrong, they are just as close as JSU. We are also peer institutions. Lipscomb fans that I talk to consider UNA their in conference rivals. Belmont will always be their "Main" rival and for good reason. And I don't think UNA and FGCU like each other to well. At least the athletes. Those games always get intense as well. I think the longer this group of schools stay together, the better that stuff will develop. There is a lot of similarities between most of the schools. The UAC is good because the WAC and ASUN can keep their rivals in conference and develop football rivalries. I'm sure Southern Utah wants revenge....

As long as Lennie Acuff is the mens basketball coach at Lipscomb, then we'll have a rivalry with them. I am convinced that he took the Lipscomb job because he missed playing UNA every year.

Got some news...
So after KSU leaves the ASUN will be at 11...
Apparently the conference has either voted or will vote to only expand to 12.
There is a list of 5 schools that the ASUN is looking to send an invite to. (One of the 5 not all five.)
Couldn't tell me who. But I have a feeling I know 3 of them.
West Florida, Valdosta State, and Tampa.
One of the football schools would be my pick... but Tampa would be cool too. Maybe they would be willing to restart football?
Anyway, I wonder who the other two are? SEMO? TTU? hopefully they announce it soon.

I’d think they go with a non-football school, sadly. I’ll bet it’s Tampa, which continues to dominate the regional postseason in most D2 sports.
I just read ASUN meetings are this week at Bellarmine.

Have you ever seen the history of their football program? It's interesting to say the least. The reason for stopping it was it was putting undo strain on finances in the university. They ended up being D1 independent in football, but D2 in other sports. They would regularly play schools like Miami, Florida State, Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vandy, Chattanooga among others. I actually think they could have a niche in the FCS market in Florida present day if they would reinstate football. They would have the ASUN for non football with all the Florida schools and southern schools. Then the UAC wouldn't be that bad on them for football.

Hoping for Tennessee Tech….already established D1 with close proximity. I'm a big supporter of this, having in-laws that have/are attending TTU. I wonder if they bus to games in Illinois and Missouri? If they do I'm sure football games in Texas would raise their budget quite a bit. I get the impression they've historically not invested much in their athletic programs. But maybe they want to change that. Of course, I say they don't invest much in their programs, but their basketball arena looks really nice.

I think it was last year they announced they have plans on renovating their stadium, I have been there, other than being able to put their colors and logos down, that place makes Braly look nice.

I was up there last summer, unless they haven't done anything yet, Braly is in better shape.
