To start, nobody has told me nothing and I didn't read or hear anything.... Just making clear before someone says I said this IS going to happen...
I have a scenario I could see playing out.
What if the ASUN and the WAC keep their partnership for good, regardless of expansion?
Meaning, both sides could have auto bids.
Both sides could have different numbers.
But they keep a football partnership.
In my opinion, in a crazy football landscape, they may decide to separate themselves from FCS and FBS... Just a weird idea. But if you are like I am, Im old school when it comes to college football, and I like the old bowl system. It brings out pageantry, and traditions that make college football special. That's one reason I can't blame the HBCUS for having the Celebration Bowl.
So what if, they partner for a Bowl game between the two conferences. It would be similar to the SWAC, MEAC, and Ivy. The exception would be, if you win the conference you HAVE to play in the playoffs, but the best from each side who got left out, plays a bowl game between the ASUN and WAC.
Hear me out... Gumbart said he was working on a TV (probably regional to member schools) deal for the ASUN and a yearly game in Atlanta. Well, to my knowledge, no game this year. But things could still be on the table.
There is no rule saying FCS schools can't participate in a bowl, and it is happening, soooo... Why not take advantage of the fact that people watch bowl games regardless (proven by how many meaningless bowls with schools with non winning records play in) except that this one would mean something and records would be good enough to deserve a bowl...
Anyway, just a thought.

Yep, but unlike D2, I think it can bring in a good revenue for our Conferences. May even make current members reluctant to leave for a low level FBS conference.

I'm just not sure there's enough fan support in FCS among non-playoff teams to make it a revenue-generating event. I could be wrong.

If they ain't making money, they wouldn't have them.

If they ain't making money, they wouldn't have them. ESPN owns most of them now. They are definitely producing some kind of TV revenue, at least, or the number of bowl games wouldn’t have more than doubled in the past 25 years. I wrote a Letter to the Editor to TD about a decade ago with a similar idea for Braly right as the D2 title game was moved. The Blues Bowl or something related to WC Handy or music.

Any word on when a conference schedule might be released?
I saw the OVC/Big South combined scheduled was released a few days ago. They don't have "divisions" per se, but the Big South teams are all playing each other and the OVC teams mostly play each other (I think they all miss 1 other opponent). I'm assuming the WACSUN will be similar.

I know several presidents have been in Indy lately...

I find it interesting that we're a.) sticking with just 6 conference games, and b.) not playing Kennesaw State.
I guess the number of conference games could be due to schools having other non-conference games already scheduled.

That makes a 10 game schedule. Who will be 11?

My goodness, just call this the "Red and Purple Conference" haha. Also... all the more reason for us to use purple and GOLD.

A similar video to the one Brandon shared about basketball last week. Pretty cool to see it all laid out visually.
