Lions are down 13 at the half. Only 22 points scored by UNA so far. They played the Knights even most of the half but that early lead has been hard to chip into. Got it down to 7 at one point.

So Chatman and Forrest combined for 8 FG Attempts. Made 6 of 8 for paltry 75%. We made 8 of 26 from three point land. We shot almost 31%. That number needed to be 42% for us to win the game by 1. This team is not good enough to shoot 42% from three in a game. Missed threes and getting the rebounds and 2nd chances would be a little different. We are not a good rebounding team. If we win enough games to make it into ASUN tournament we will have changed our offensive strategy or got very lucky. Coaching and execution need improve to D1 level. Young players need to start playing at college level. Ortiz flashes talent, Brown has regressed on offensive end and Howell needs to find some consistency from game to game.
Attendance number is impressive. Over 1200 at the game. Student population at Bellarmine is around 3300. If we find a way to win some games I think we will see the attendance jump too. I hope that number changes for next year.

I hope that number changes for next year. They love basketball in Kentucky, but I know you know that. I'm sure Bellarmine will one day look to move into one of the midwestern basketball-focused conferences. But who knows, maybe they'll stick around and help bring the ASUN up to that level. So many teams live and die by the 3 now. So many coaches follow the analytics that say anything other than a 3 or an easy basket under the hoop is not worth attempting. I get that to a degree, but when your post play isn't good enough to help you on a poor shooting night, you're screwed. You cannot win games scoring 22 points in a half - period. We were lucky to keep it as close as we did. I don't know about the ASUN tournament, but to even make it to .500 in conference play, we'll have to win all 6 remaining home games left and try to steal 1 somewhere on the road. It won't be easy. We really needed that win against UCA (ugh).

Remember when we are playing another FCS team and not doing so well…..at least we are not Bellarmine. Wow. They really do not have much going for them other than they are tall. Tall and not athletic makes for some long games and looks like a long season. Of course they get 5 shots on offensive end since we can’t rebound. Bellarmine has a wrestling team.

I know I said it must be Tiber....
Since I quit watching the women, they win... Maybe it's me...
I'll stop watching the men now...

The ladies have been a bit Jekyll and Hyde, but to be fair, they are a pretty darn young team. If we can keep this team intact, and try to find some sort of transfer to help us inside, I think next year we could be in the hunt for the postseason. Skyler Gill looks to be an All-Conference type player.
If they continue to mature and continue to lead the conference in 3-point shooting, who knows? Maybe we can go all the way... to finish runner-up to FGCU!

Suzuki has great basketball intelligence. She makes the team go. I love watching her play the point. I wish the men had a point that had that type of basketball intelligence. She knows where and maybe more important when to make each pass.

Maybe we can go all the way... to finish runner-up to FGCU! I hope you're right. But, even as their commentators were pouring praise on Gill, I thought, some G5 will come to snag her. It's sad and I hope it doesn't happen. That said, I agree, this team is pretty young and/or new together but that goes back to recruiting and retention. Some might not realize it, but the transfers Strachan and Jaworska are Grad students. So, they're seasoned just new in the system. Tiber and Harlow's offense is fast. We've seen it clicking perfectly with the Wallens and we've seen, even with them, some players struggle and produce a ton of unforced turnovers and missed flailing shots underneath the basket. This team is picking it up now but, of course, poor Bellarmine. Of note though, is that UNA beat them much worse than the other ASUN West teams have so far. Speaking of FGCU, they had to come from behind to beat Liberty the other night. The Flames look stacked this year, too. Also, Bell from FGCU announced today she's declaring for the WBNA draft in April. With her gone and Liberty leaving, UNA should have a much better chance at the post-season in the next couple of years.

She knows where and maybe more important when to make each pass. It’s beautiful to see her basketball intelligence overcome the language barrier she was having, especially at first. They were literally using the white board to better communicate with her in games last year. Her hustle also reminds me of Savannah Stults from a few years back. So fun to watch their determination overcome the height advantage of other players.

That was the worst half of UNA women’s basketball I’ve ever witnessed. Made four shots in the first half. Three of them were three’s by Strachan but now she’s hurt. Gill with 3 fouls. Tiber screaming at everyone. Her team, her staff, and the officials. Honestly, I want to scream at them all including her. Wow. I’m a bit in disbelief.
Stetson up 33-16 at halftime.
