From what I am hearing, from various people, is the WAC football schools along with New Mexico St is going to join with the ASUN football schools to form the UAC under the WAC umbrella for FBS. It will not happen until all involved have finished transitions.
The WAC is grandfathered in FBS and all that has to be done is make the move.
It will be East and West divisions.
Both WAC and ASUN will be FCS until this happens.
UAC East EKU UCA UNA JSU KSU Undecided
UAC West SHSU SFAU Tarleton ACU New Mexico St Dixie St SUU
There is also the possibility of a current FBS school joining the East after it happens. Don't know the details of who yet.

If that’s the case then why don’t the New Conference form in July 2022. More than enough schools
Abilene Christian * Central Arkansas * Dixie State Eastern Kentucky * Jacksonville State * Kennesaw State * New Mexico State * North Alabama Sam Houston State * Southern Utah * Stephen F. Austin * Tarleton State
* Full Members for 2022-2023 season as of June 4, 2021

Yes there is one D1 football team that shares a stadium with a high school....nothing about that screams FBS. The new athletics director hopefully will provide a vision and infrastructure. Our fundraisers help, but without commitments from large local donors to athletics it will be near impossible. In turn our athletic programs need to provide ROI to those donors. The stadium structure can provide instant ROI to local restaurants and business. Space leased inside the stadium could be huge. People will flock to the stadium once it is opened. I wouldn’t mind paying a $2-3 fee for shuttles rides to the game from designated parking areas that could be at downtown restaurants or local on campus spots. Plenty of opportunities out there, time to ask.

To be fair about Braly Stadium, and anyone who knows me knows I would rather build a stadium, but it's technically not a high school stadium... It used to be one but hasn't been in quite some time.
It is a Municipal stadium. And plenty of FBS schools have used them at one point or another.
Not saying it's the best option, but it's not the worst. And there are FBS stadiums out there that Braly makes look bad.
Vanderbilts stadium is not far from being condemned.
Tennessees stadium needs big time renovations.
I've visited several MAC stadiums that makes Braly look like a diamond.
The only thing that makes me not want to stay in Braly is the way the school board acted when UNA was trying their best to help out. UNA should have just bought the stadium and the land when given the opportunity.

We can’t have our championships hanging in Braly. We need a college scoreboard from the 90’s or up. We need our college stadium. The seating is pretty outdated in Braly. I have enjoyed many special memories at Braly, ready to enjoy the new stadium and it’s amenities and new memories. I am sure any team traveling to Florence is completely shocked at the visitor locker room and visitor concession stand. After going to West Georgia and seeing their stadium, which is a really nice D2 stadium, we have to give the coaching staff a chance. Guess we are saving a fortune playing in Braly, hopefully the dream will come true before 2024 season.

They are our competition and should be our benchmark. Out of JSU, KSU, EKU, and UCA, where do we stand with Braly? The answer can only be dead last. All four have nicer stadiums than we do. How many recruiting battles will we lose, or have already lost, because another team told a recruit we’re playing in a D2/high school stadium?

I agree.
I also think once North Alabama has its own stadium it will actually feel like we are D1. North Alabama would likely attract some new fans, new recruits, and new donors.
Braly will be the place of some of my absolute best times, and will always have a place in North Alabama Lions fans hearts. Braly served its purpose and helped get us to this point.

I was wondering how a whole conference could move up from FCS to FBS. I have no idea if Chattanooga is looking to make the move or not. Our AD was on "Chat with the Mocs" lately and discussed a potential move, but ended up saying that a big part of the decision was sports other than football, and also NCAA tournament money. He said the SoCon was the best fit for Chattanooga for now, but of course I wouldn't expect him to say anything else until an agreement and announcement was made.

I have been told without doubt that there is negotiation between the ASUN and Chattanooga. Chattanooga is the 6th school the ASUN wants but they also want another for 7, but Nooga is the goal right now. I'm still up in the air about the FBS thing... Honestly it seems a bit much for all involved. I would be happy staying in FCS (unless the landscape will change so much that FCS isn't D1 anymore.)
