The big TE target announced his transfer. Looks like he is heading to Boston College. I wonder if we ever keep another player that stands out on either side of the ball? This transfer thing needs some work....

The big TE target announced his transfer. Looks like he is heading to Boston College. I wonder if we ever keep another player that stands out on either side of the ball? This transfer thing needs some work.... I'm afraid the proverbial hay is out of the barn now. I'm not sure how they could tweak it to where we WON'T see this happen. Any kid that thinks he has a shot at the NFL (and let's be honest, most of them do) will want to transfer up to an FBS team if they get the chance, thinking they'll get more "exposure". Whether that's true or not doesn't matter. There was an article in yesterday's TimesDaily where Coach Willis seemed pretty disgruntled with the whole thing. Obviously he isn't afraid to speak his mind, but I think it was pretty telling how negative he seemed to be about it. FCS coaches know this will be a BIG challenge year-in and year-out. You will basically be "re-recruiting" your best players each year, hoping to convince them to stay. One thing I'll be interested to see is how the trickle-down effect works in regards to high school recruits. At the FBS level transfers are counting against the 25 that can be signed each year. If every FBS school ends up averaging at least 1 or 2 transfers each year, there will be some pretty decent high school kids that end up missing out on a spot. A lot of them will end up with FCS teams.

This is going to be interesting for sure. I was under the impression they can only transfer once without sitting out a year under these new rules. So, it won’t be musical chairs each season for all players.
But, It’s going to be good and bad for FCS. Yes, FBS will pull from FCS but FCS teams may land big recruits that weren’t getting they playing time they expected. FCS can also pull some of the best players from D2.
I like the freedom it gives players. I’m the past they felt stuck in bad situations sometimes.

I don't mind the transfer deal... But I think it should be tougher. Example, you should have to prove your reason, not just that you don't like the situation.
If the coach you wanted to play for leaves, fine, transfer.
If you need to be closer to home, fine.
If you didn't get a starting spot.... Nope.
And you should have to prove that you have a better chance going pro with said school than original school.
None of this applies to grad transfers.
