That is NOT an easy schedule, guys. If there's a time for this coaching staff and team to make a statement, it will be this fall.

One other piece of news that will affect the Lions--and all other college programs: out of concerns for player injuries and concussions, the NCAA is considering rules that will reduce the number of full pad practices and contact drills. If these rules pass, and they're likely to, then coaches at all levels will have to change the way they run fall camps. I suspect that creativity will be rewarded. (For example, how can coaches install an offense or defense as efficiently with these changes?) The other way it will challenge coaches is that they will have to make objective assessments of player abilities more quickly. This may make it harder for newcomers to break into the lineup early in the year. In conjunction with new transfer rules, NCAA legislation like this will reward well-run programs. Student-athletes will be drawn to them. They'll flee toxic programs--or even good programs with a toxic position coach--as soon as they're able.
