Bet they wouldn’t beat Ole Miss….. Happy he is playing well, he had moments here and then just seemed to kind of give up? Maybe he needed a fresh start somewhere else?

I didn't mean to insinuate anything, not that y'all took it that way either. I just check in on some of the transfers from time to time.
I'm glad to see Jaila Roberts is at College of Charleston and doing well there after a bad situation at ETSU last season. Macey Lee contributing down at Samford. Sadly, I don't think Jaida Bond is playing basketball this season.
Saucy Agnew is at SELA this year in the same conference against Manny Littles at Nichols. They played each other the other night. Mervin James is still up at Rider. All of these teams basically have the same or worse record/NET ranking as UNA right now.
214. Nichols 225. Rider 227. UNA 261. SELA 317. ULM
I do sometimes wonder "what ifs" if some of these had continued at UNA.

I don’t personally understand players transferring to schools where they don’t put themselves in a clear-cut better situation than what they had. And with ALL our recent basketball transfers, I would argue none have went to a team that will likely win their conference or make it to the Dance. But hey, I try to tell myself that there are behind the scenes reasons we might not be aware of. Heck, maybe it’s to pursue some sort of degree that only those schools have. Wild thought, huh? But I suppose it’s possible.
I don’t wish them any bad luck (unless they play UNA), but I’d certainly love to hear their side of the story. Oh well.

I was watching KSU hosting Liberty last night on my phone while our game was on the TV. Their commentator said something we've all known but he put it well. "Player retention is as much or more important than recruiting nowadays." It's very true. Obviously, we've all discussed it here but it's showing at KSU.
They had a packed house of very involved fans and even he said it was something he'd never seen at KSU. Just four seasons back, they won 1 game the entire season. It was the first season for this head coach. But, through the pandemic and the portal free-for-all, he actually kept his best players from leaving and then supplemented from the portal and HS recruitment.
It's something UNA must focus more on. I still think it's interesting that Jaida Bond has transferred back. I guess she had to sit out the entire season but she's on the end of the bench and gets into the games big time. But, that she wanted to come back and play for Tiber says a lot really. Although, I'm not sure what happened at UNF. One of their other good players from last season is at EKU now.
Also, size. Both of these squads need legit D1 "bigs" on the team. We have zero currently.

If a player is offered NIL money by a bigger school, or even just a spot on the team and he/she wants to compete on a bigger stage than ours... what can you do? You can have a great coaching staff that builds a true family environment, have nice facilities, a beautiful campus and college experience (all of which I believe UNA has). But what if all of that still isn't enough? What if they just want to see themselves playing in front of 10,000 every night instead of 2,000? I know you know all of this, and these questions are a bit redundant. I try not to be depressed about where we are in college sports. But I stay apprehensive about losing our top players all the time. The situation with Shunderrick Powell was just sad, from a fan perspective. How can you build a consistent winner if your best players are always looking for greener pastures? I do hope/think that the better attendance/support we've seen for the men this season is a good step. I think players want to know their efforts are appreciated. Other than NIL contributions (which I still cringe at the thought of, right or wrong), that's obviously the #1 thing we fans can do to help.

"Good or bad we made the choice to get through..." I hope that he doesn't transfer to EKU. It would be ShunDerrick Powell to Central Arkansas all over again. I'd be ok if he transferred to UAB, though.

If they aren't going to make any other change to the portal, I wish they would bring back the "sit out a year" rule if you transfer to another school in conference. There's a lot of things you could say aren't fair about D1 sports, but I do NOT like the idea of a conference team poaching one of your players. I know that means we wouldn't have been able to play KJ Johnson this year, but I still think it would be a good change.

I know that means we wouldn't have been able to play KJ Johnson this year, but I still think it would be a good change. The conference could vote to limit that ability if they wanted. From this article about the SEC: Another important factor to consider is that the SEC office established rules for intraconference transfers. Undergraduates seeking immediate eligibility this season were required to enter the NCAA transfer portal by January 18th. There is a little grace for graduate transfers who have until February 1st to announce their intentions.
The current SEC rule would prohibit any spring portal entrant to play within the league during the 2023 college football season. The rule has both critics and supporters. The transfer process continues to evolve. The legislation around it all continues to change with it. There are some who hope the SEC will simply adopt the NCAA guidelines for transfers and allow players to move freely throughout the conference no matter when they enter the portal. Others believe once a program goes through spring football that they should not have to worry about a player defecting and taking inside information to a potential opponent within the league.247sports.com/college/mississippi-state/Article/NCAA-transfers-within-the-Southeastern-Conference-203748826/
