I got home and thought it would be fun to watch the spring game....kinda was? Driggers looks like the best opportunity for us to have a running game. Boswell has a burst, made a big run but coughed it up. Howell doesn’t show much burst. Kennewbrew has some speed...will be fun to watch. Haynes made a lot of tackles, he doesn’t look any bigger than a safety. Martin looked strong in the middle and Ryan played well. Files cuts down on the turnovers he can make some plays for us. Dever didn’t try to do much...guessing by design. We really need a win in Jacksonville this year, would help the program tremendously in the state.

Is there any update on Jaxton Carson? I thought he had a ton of potential. He had an achilles injury, correct? Obviously not an easy injury for an RB to come back from. Of course, I'm just looking for ANYONE who can help our running game at this point. I'm hoping Files is the guy at QB when September rolls around. The TD says he went 11 for 15 for 115. Two interceptions, but... maybe that's just an indication of how good our secondary is? Agree on winning at Jacksonville. I have said it, it's time we win a game (or more!) we aren't "supposed" to. Otherwise we will never start to turn a corner. Jacksonville State, Chattanooga, Kennesaw, Monmouth... we absolutely have to win 1 or 2 of those to have a really good season.

Game notes: the D is still way ahead of the O.
Offense: the first team O-line plays soft. Second team doesn’t have as much talent, but has more dog. Fall camp will be interesting in that regard. The first INT came on an under thrown ball to an open receiver. Files also threaded the needle, tho, on passes to slot receivers. Third and fourth string QBs are clearly still getting used to game speed.
Defense: stronger across the board. The CBs need to communicate with safeties better. LB play looks like it has improved but a team that has a strong running attack still looks like it would eventually wear them down.
ST: Easterling performed well in Contorno’s absence: 3/4, with the miss as a 56-yard attempt in light rain. It was on target and maybe two feet short. Gurley has true D1 hangtime on punts. Dowis has added muscle to his frame but needs to get more flexible to get his foot through the ball faster. Easterling’s kickoffs were solid in pregame.

I'll just be glad if we quit dropping games we ain't supposed to lose... Hampton, A&M, Charleston Southern are the type games we should have been winning instead of dropping.

Monmouth blew out Kennesaw St today 42-17. Kennesaw seemed vulnerable going into the game.

Monmouth may have a free ride to the playoffs every year going forward. They’ve already blown out Charleston Southern and Gardner Webb this year. At the moment they are probably the best program in the Big South.
I’d almost say, invite them to the ASUN as a football associate if we still need another team... but I bet they’ll be more than happy to stay put.

Don't think it would be worth the cost of travel for a tougher conference though.

I'm a little surprised that more of the FCS games didn't get upgraded from ESPN+ to ESPN or ESPN2 programming. Watching NDSU and SDSU right now and it would be great for it to have a wider exposure for the entire division.

Guessing JSU record of 9-2 includes the fall games too? The other teams have at most 7 games. We will have a shot next fall after the vote is counted....I hope.

Some good FCS action on already today. Monmouth trying to come from behind in the 4th against Sam Houston. JSU/Davidson tied in the 2nd.
