By the way, I'm still in holding pattern on my wife...
I am not going to give names, but a UNA person came by to check up on me today. It was mostly about me and my wife, but yall know I have to talk a little UNA when I can. I need something to keep my mind stable...
Anyway, some interesting dialogue came out, some that was kinda shocking...
UNA is in excellent position as far as athletics in D1 go, even better than a lot of FBS programs at the moment. Im talking financial.
The ASUN is planning on maintaining its relationship with the Big South for the time being, until the ASUN builds enough football members to split off.
When that happens, all the schools (football) involved, including Liberty, will move to be an FBS conference.
North Florida is also making steps to once again evaluate football.
Said in a few years, the Bowl structure will be a little different and maybe a G5 bowl will be a play in spot for the playoffs.
Anyway, the new league, when its FBS will be (football of course)
Liberty UNA JSU UCA EKU UNF (TBA) (TBA)
and possibly a few football only members.
He would not say who the other schools were, but did say they are already involved. All I got out of Chattanooga is a smirk.
As far as a stadium goes, the plan is still to build it, but with the FBS situation at the moment, how to build it is the issue, size mainly.
Sorry, didn't mean to leave out KSU

I’d heard the FBS rumor before. Very interesting. I’ve been doing searches almost daily to seek any potential announcement soon about JSU, UCA, EKU.

Our facilities will definitely have to improve to recruit FBS for all sports. Men’s bball had a nice facilities upgrade, hope that’s just a start?

Little more to the FBS thing... you wont find it on the web right now.
There are going to be some drastic changes in D1 football structure coming in the near future from what I'm told.
Basically, some current FBS (G5) schools are likely to drop to FCS or drop football all together.
P5 and G5 will stay together and work on a better, more suitable playoff option.
A lot of current FCS schools and possibly conferences will drop to D2.
A lot of D2 schools will drop as well.
So as far as D1 football goes, from what I can gather will look like this
FBS FCS (A) scholarship football FCS (B) non scholarship football
I imagine conferences like MVFC, Big Sky, CAA will join FBS along with the WAC and ASUN
The rest will remain in FCS.

I’m don’t buy a lot of this. I still think P5 will break away from the NCAA in football and do their own thing.

I think with the way the landscape will change over the next 5-10 years, it’s hard to really predict where we will be.
I wouldn’t mind to eventually see a restructured FCS that consists of the lower G5 teams and the best conferences from the current FCS. But you’ll have a hard time convincing any G5 team that they’d be better off playing for a FCS title than whatever meaningless bowl they get a shot at. It doesn’t make sense to me, but that’s where we stand.
I’d personally love to see some of the bigger/better D2 schools come on up and play FCS, and some of the schools that really don’t need to be D1 forced to move down. But there would be a lot of hurt feelings in that scenario. I’m not sure there’s an easy or politically correct way to cull some of the ones that simply aren’t good enough to compete.
I’ve said before and will continue to say it: I want to see FCS grow stronger and for us to be a part of it. I want to win championships and not be trying to play for a spot in the Montgomery Bowl.
The moves by the WAC this week have started the dominoes falling, and I think it’ll end up with us being in a much more attractive conference.
And on the stadium, I don’t want to hear any excuses. We should’ve built a new one and THEN moved up. But saying we want to see how a hypothetical FBS situation shakes out is silly. Build a 15,000 seat stadium and make it easily expandable. That’s it, that’s the plan. We need to actually have 15,000 fans attend a game before we worry about it being bigger, anyway.

I was so die hard against us leaving D2 about a decade ago. Now, I’m of the mindset that championships in lower divisions are basically participation trophies.
When you see teams like Coastal Carolina and Liberty competing so well in FBS after being FCS very recently it really shows the potential is there to truly be a valid member of the highest division of football. Heck, we used to play UCF in D2.
The south is the hotbed of football talent and interest. It can be done. I don’t think UNA will ever draw decent crowds unless they are FBS.

So, ASUN Football, THIS FALL is what he said, right? Just want to make sure I heard that right.
UNA, KSU, UCA, and three more he wouldn't name. We assume JSU and EKU. But, who else?
This is exciting!!
