UNA has actually made out financially successful this year... got paid good money for 3 of the 4 games. So I dont think this year is as big of a detour on building a new stadium as one may think.
The issues I have with Braly is aesthetics only. Recruits dont care about the inside of the press box, honestly.
TV wise, the conference logo shouldn't look like you just took a can of white spray paint and half assed it. And the old junky buildings around the stadium need to go... and with modern lighting the way it is, there is no reason to have those light towers in the stands anymore. Take them out.
Personally, I think Braly has potential to be a great place for UNA, just need to do what's right.
But I'd rather UNA have their own stadium, were they make decisions and the money put into it isnt to benefit someone else.

We could get by with that in D2, since half that division (if not more) are schools that don't have near the resources we do. But if we want to be a top program in FCS, we can't just look at Braly and say "eh, it's good enough". And I know you know this, Brandon. I'm just saying... If we stay in Braly going forward for any significant length of time, it needs to look like UNA's stadium that the Falcons are allowed to play in, not a municipal stadium UNA is allowed to play in. Perception goes a long way.

We went division 1. We need division 1 facilities. We want division 1 athletes. We want to win in division 1. We can’t settle for less than division 1. I would love to have the best facilities in the conference. I am simple and will settle for new football stadium. You want to grow attendance, give everyone something to be excited about going to see. Give the facilities something extra, an attraction for families to want to come with the family to the games. In stadium campus bookstore, and restaurants that want to rent out space on game days....maybe a kid zone with live game streaming so parents can still watch. We are North Alabama Lions...King of the FCS jungle.

Thank you for posting that. I had read it back when it first become public information, but had forgotten some of the details. The fact that it allows for painting the press box, installing a parking surface on the old ball field, decks in the south endzone, etc. - and that those things have not been done yet - seem to indicate to me that UNA was hoping to move to a new stadium sooner than later. But after the past year, those plans are likely on hold (though I have no way of knowing that for sure). Does that mean we might see some movement now on some stadium enhancements? I don't want to harp on it, but I've said it before - a new scoreboard needs to be a top priority *if* we will be staying at Braly for the next few years. Recruits probably laugh at the one we currently have. I'm not asking for an Auburn-style goliath, but something needs to be done. Braly desperately needs upgrades even if UNA is only there a couple more seasons. The inside of the press box is very dated.

Where in the middle of the campus would a football stadium go? When they sent out the pictures of the stadium beside Flowers, it was going to take some work to put it there, and the church would have to be bought out. I still think the best place to put it would be the land at Wildwood. It's close to campus and could have lots of area to tailgate if done properly. I think the stadium is years away, I'm afraid to say. Donors put a lot of money in on the D-1 move. Not sure if they are willing to put more money in without UNA showing more success. We need to get through this awful and inexcusable transition period. Then, we can assess where the program is and get moving forward. They dont have to buy out the church... that was not part of putting the stadium there. As for where in the middle of campus, I dont know. I do know they have talked about demolishing Rice and Rivers hall, so why not there? If they build more dorms they can build were the old apartments are. There is also some old houses around the new dorms that can be bought a lot easier than the church. But why I was suggesting what I was ie because you will have to wait on the baseball stadium to be built first, so football would still be at Braly anyway. Move baseball and take care of an indoor facility and soccer at the same time. And indoor facility is a need in this day and age and it also helps with recruiting. When baseball stadium is done, address the football stadium (that does not have to be shared with soccer now) I personally dont care if it's on campus, I think the best option is to put it at McFarland park. Build up the spot because of flooding in the summer. Have a nice backdrop, close to campus, plenty of parking, better location for potential concerts, excellent area for tailgating and have an option for campers and RVs. But people think campus locations is the only way to go, so whatever.

The scoreboard situation has been fixed. The old score board from 1951 is being brought back to give the stadium a look of nostalgia. New hooks will be put in where rust took its biggest toll. The score tags are getting some paint and a horn from a 1915 Ford will signal the quarters and end of game. Uhoooga, uhoooga! I feel so much better already.

I need to get my mind, and probably yours off the dismal start to the football season...
Anyway, I did talk to a couple of people the other day about what's going on with the stadium...
The preliminary plan is to build a horseshoe stadium but not the original design...
Instead, to make it nicer and be able to kill multiple birds with one stone, the are thinking incorporate dorms with the stadium.
Also they are thinking about the same with baseball stadium and have the football and baseball next to each other. They may ask the Trash Pandas if they can play home baseball games in Madison if it interferes with games...
They are talking about building a good size parking deck on the lot directly below Flowers...

I agree the stadium should have dorms but the baseball stadium Needs to move over by softball. That land was bought for that reason. No reason to polish a turd and keep baseball where it’s at. Plus that land would be perfect to build indoor/football facilities. Whatever is done, a decision needs to be made. We’ve been talking about a stadium for years now and no set plan has been made. I get they want to get it right but other universities are getting it right a helluva lot quicker than UNA. if they’re waiting on money, a set plan/goal will help that. It’s tough to ask for money when there isn’t a plan or only a few people know of it. UNA needs to crap or get off the pot. This isn’t D2. This is D1 and they better stop acting like it or they will be 10-15 years behind real quick. I need to get my mind, and probably yours off the dismal start to the football season... I like the sound of the football stadium. I think incorporating dorms is a good idea and lots of schools, including JSU, are doing it. You’re using space within the stadium that would otherwise be empty or seldom used. Would this be on the spot where the practice field now is? If so I wonder if the new turf will be able to be moved or reused.
On baseball I think I agree with unaman. I’m not sure you can squeeze both football and baseball into that area without making sacrifices to one or both. Maybe I’m wrong, but it just doesn’t sound possible. Move it over to the softball complex and give the program some room to breathe.
And for football, for goodness sake, please fast-track it as much as possible. A stadium doesn’t guarantee wins, but we need something to build excitement and point us in the right direction. Though I guess the same could be said about baseball, huh.

Really hoping the stadium is high on the Looney to do list. Afraid this about the only place talking about the stadium. Homecoming would be a swell time to announce when the stadium will be built right? Or tomorrow is fine too. Do not see any way possible for Football stadium and Baseball stadium to coexist on campus. Unless we are gonna be very underwhelmed with the size of the stadium. Hopefully Looney looked at our current stadium situation and thought really? Ready to see something from North Alabama, think once the baseball move starts, we are on our way. Until baseball moves, I will not get too excited about anything happening football stadium wise.

It was interesting to read that the Jax State stadium project will actually reduce the capacity from 24k to 20k. It will focus on premium seating coupled with dorms, cafeteria, some retail, etc.

I think we build 13,000 to 15,000 capacity stadium the right way that will be an ideal size. 6500 for the game Saturday wasn’t great, but is still better than a lot of Big South teams get each week. If we do return to an upper tier FCS program it will be tough to reach 10,000 people week in and week out. FBS keeps people in front of their TV’s. I brought a local that enjoyed the first half, was actually cheering for the Lions. He was sooo bored the 2nd half I sort of felt bad for him. He said I see why everybody leaves during the third quarter. By the start of the 4th quarter we are down to 1200 or less. I am sure the players see the mass exodus of band parents/friends and our student section that doesn’t exist after halftime. We had the students engaged for the UTC game. Students were all painted up and excited to watch us SUCK. The student section has to be a cool section of the stadium I hope to see in my lifetime. I am currently in my late forties.

I agree with the student section. I'm always frustrated when I see some other schools with tons of students being loud, or heck, just being at the game. Whatever design we use for a new stadium, it needs to consider the students and put them in a good location. Winning cures all of course, but I actually remember us being loud when I was a student in the mid 2000s. I didn't get to go to every game due to my work schedule, but I remember having a good time at the games I did attend. The semifinal with Northwest Missouri that started at something like 10AM was one of the most "involved" games I attended, even though we lost. I wish we'd have more students show up for basketball, too. I've seen some diehards there every game, but it's not that many of them. I'd love to go back to a time when I could go to every game for free!
