I have to get my mind off of expansion stuff.
My question, why has UNA never used the diagonal UNA design (like on the baseball caps, and on the gold football pants) on a helmet?
I think it would look solid on a gold helmet.
Also, I've kinda gotten over the newer logo on the helmet. It's too busy to me, and the short stripes...
I love the pouncing Lion helmets(like Detroit). I think that should be our only design. You could modify it by putting the diagonal UNA inside the Lion. Or put the players numbers inside the Lion...
Dont matter really, I just like classic style uniforms, and helmets. We have the classic look now, just dont care much for the new logo on the helmet. Dont get me wrong, I love the logo, just too much for my taste on the helmet....

It's always seemed like schools have unique logos on their baseball caps, not sure why. I do like that letting and am glad we use it on our football pants, like we did back in the 90s if I'm not mistaken.
I agree that the primary UNA/lion head logo is too busy, but I wouldn't be surprised if we aren't using it as a visibility thing. If someone isn't familiar with us from D2, at least they can google UNA and find out. Now, is that really needed? Probably not, but who knows. The uniforms during the Hudspeth years were mostly terrible, but I did like the helmet that had the lion head logo by itself - though it should've been gold instead of white, of course.
I'm obviously partial to the pouncing lion (duh). We definitely need to keep using it. The purple helmet version of that, purple jersey, and gold pants is my favorite of all our uniforms at the moment.
What we need to do is convince Coach Pujol, or whoever, to get rid of those awful men's basketball unis. I've hated them for three years and don't see that changing. Purple and black is just awful.

I liked the plain purple helmets, but then again I was there when they won two of their three national championships with them.

We did have the solid purple helmet as a throwback a couple of years ago. I liked having the stars as "pride stickers". I've always liked the thought of players being rewarded for outstanding play.

I’m just glad we currently do not have a cheesy sideline reward. The big chain around your neck for turnovers is not a good look. I watched somebody beat a drum 6 times for scoring a TD...didn’t notice if the kicker hit once for the extra point? Glad we are not that cheesy...we do carry the hammer out or we did. I didn’t pay attention prior to JSU kickoff. I think a better reward would be to have a padded seat that has sun block or heat depending on weather...that’s a reward.

Not football, but did y’all see the uniforms our basketball teams wore in their first games? I didn’t get to watch the games but saw the pics.
The ladies had even more gold than last year’s home set, I think, so that’s an improvement. I’ve always liked the script “Lions” for home jerseys, whether it’s men or women.
I really like the men’s set as well, even if I don’t quite understand why it’s gray. Yeah, it’s a Warrior’s “The City” knockoff, but I’ll allow it because it implies the same thing - The Shoals is one area, and the bridges connect us. I wouldn’t mind seeing us wear that a few times per year, since it’s easily better than our regular two sets.
Maybe we have some more new designs we just haven’t been shown yet.

That gold helmet is great. Was that something that was made for this past season, and we would've worn it if we had had a full schedule? Not sure why we didn't wear it against Jacksonville State. It would look best with purple jerseys and pants, IMO.
I still prefer the Leaping Lion, though.

If you look at it, all of them really, they have the Big South logo on the back, that tells me that it's the actual helmets and not someone just putting them together. They can use the pouncing lion on any helmet, they just take the vinyl off and replace them. Willis mentioned in a past interview that he wanted to start using Gold helmets. The only thing I dont like about the UNA logo helmets is the stripes... I would rather have full, symmetrical stripes. It looks like they let the players put them on themselves and some have them too wide, or too close together. I would almost rather do away with stripes all around and just have the logos on the side, with achievement stickers, like the 90s.

I bet it was a prototype that would've been used in a full season. Might have had a promotion planned for the game it was going to be worn in, and they just didn't get around to doing it for the one home game. I agree about the tapered stripes. They really don't match anything else on the uniform. I'd like to see a traditional stripe. The achievement stickers were great, but I wonder if the helmet with the UNA logo would look too cluttered. The beauty of the achievement stars back in the day was the otherwise plainness of the helmet. But plain helmets don't get used much these days, unless your name is Penn State. I did enjoy the throwback a couple of years ago.

I've heard Gold helmets are going to be a mainstay at UNA soon. Should be putting it in the rotation along with the purple and white. Was also told they will have it with the UNA logo and the pouncing Lion logo.
And there may be a new UNA logo coming in the future. Was told they want to get a more unique and simple logo that will be used among all teams, including baseball...lol

And while I love the pouncing lion, it’s probably too close to the NFL Lions logo to be our “main” logo. I’ve always thought the “North Alabama” logo is too busy. I get why they want to use it, for brand recognition, but it’s just not that great. Men’s basketball is still hands-down our worst uniforms, at least the primary home/away. Four years later and I still hate the away jersey that’s purple and black. Yuck.
