They're also in the process of deciding which players will travel to Liberty. I suspect the players will know no later than Wednesday.
The team scrimmaged Friday and today. The offense struggles still. The D is good, but I suspect they'll be gassed by the middle of the third quarter in every game--at the latest. Special teams struggled too. The pandemic will be blamed for some of the problems because of the way the staff and personnel have been shuffled to accommodate recovery from illnesses. However, there's a broader cultural issue at play. Body language suggests that levels of enthusiasm and buy-in are low. Look at the sidelines as often as you can and you'll see it.

The thing is, I suspect the coaching staff will get more time due to the pandemic to put all of this together. I already felt like they have a free pass until the 4-year transition is over, and now it might be more. On the flip side of that, we will have the potential to carry over some players that we didn't expect to have next year (and a few years after) due to the extra year of eligibility. I'm not sure I'd expect a senior this year to want to stick around for another playoff ineligible year, but this year's juniors might like the idea of being on that 2022 team. All that to say, if the players are having trouble buying in, we may not see that happen with very many of them.
I wonder sometimes if the average age of our coaching staff, which is certainly on the lower end, hurts us. I imagine it's harder for a college kid to respect a guy in his mid-30s than one a few decades older, and likewise, I bet a lot of the younger coaches try too often to be the players' buddy instead of a coach. I've never been a big fan of the "player's coach" myself.
It will be interesting to see how we play Saturday. Do we fight all four quarters, even if the game is out of reach late? Can we play disciplined, with few penalties? We've had issues with penalties for so many years running now, I feel like a broken record when I complain about it. I would just love to see us play hard for 60 minutes and be proud of the effort we gave. That goes for all four games, obviously.

If our defense can get us to the 2nd quarter...I like our chances. We have a better group of receivers than the Liberty secondary has faced this year. Our linebackers and dline should be tough to run against.
