Watching a short Lions video. With the exception of the Bowden years and all the Legit D1s he brought in, the Lions physically, are starting to look the part of D1
First time poster/second-year UNA dad. From what I have seen last year and through the fences at a couple of practices this year, the coaching staff has indeed assembled better talent than they have in the past. This season will be weird--four in the fall and six in the spring--so one measurement of success will indeed be the quality of athletes the coaches can attract. Moreover, since UNA can't advance to the playoffs this year, it seems to me that development might be a more important way to measure success than just wins and losses. That's also why I'm not optimistic at this point. It isn't just that the defense is ahead of the offense--it's that there isn't any offense. Timing is off. Routes are off. In the limited minutes I've seen, there's been more finger-pointing and yelling than actual coaching. Staff turnover may have something to do with that, but leadership doesn't develop when communication lacks clarity. This team is more talented, but the coaches don't have them pulling in the same direction. Generally speaking, when you watch coaches at the FBS/FCS level, you should see people who are in control of their emotions and make decisions effectively because they're thinking ahead. I know it's an emotional game, but playing like your hair's on fire doesn't help if you don't know where you're supposed to be going.

Thanks for the post. I have been curious about two guys splitting the offensive coordinator role. One guy is geared toward running the football and the other guy is geared toward passing the football. I am not sure how this will play out in game. It doesn’t sound like it is playing out great in practice. Practice does give the coaches a chance to iron out the differences or issues. I think with this offensive line and Howell at back we should have a much stronger running game this year. I hope our quarterbacks can provide enough plays to keep the defense honest. We know our receivers are capable. Here is to not putting too much pressure on the defense.

Files has not been practicing with “Undisclosed health concerns”, he’s been out there but not in pads. Something to look out for that I found out the other day.

I adore the city, which we had never visited until college trips, and the school has been wonderful, too. D1 football can flourish here.
Thin line... criticism is when you tell the person you are criticizing. Complaining is when you tell everyone else. My opinion...
But I agree with you.... D1 sports in general can flourish in the Shoals, and across North Alabama and the South central Tennessee and northeast Mississippi regions. But we will have to consistently schedule and win big home games to get people to do more than read about it.
Dixie is a place, its home, nothing more nothing less.
