How do the PWO offers work in FCS? I wonder if his family is able to pay their own way, so for whatever reason they chose to do that? Just seems odd that a guy his size and (I assume) ability wasn't given a scholarship by us, unless he is literally "(not) taking one for the team". The guy sounds like he will be a leader. Agree '96 - hope we load up on linemen that are ready to play between now and August. We *might* have a chance to compete for a playoff spot if this proposed waiver goes through. We need to be ready to get after it. PWO usually ends up with a scholarship asap. It usually means that the school has used up their scholarships. Side note, while looking on his Twitter account, he had several FCS and D2 opportunities. Even had Army, but you know how that goes. Had several FCS schools looking and retweeting several times a peice. UNA was never one of them that I could find. He just out of the blue took UNA. Odd.

I knew that PWOs usually get a scholarship when one becomes available, but I know for some of these kids, their family situation might mean a struggle to even pay one semester. Hopefully that isn't the case with him, if his scholarship doesn't come through for a while. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets one if we aren't able to fill all of our remaining spots with transfers.

Must be waiting on another senior to decide hes not playing this year.

PWO means that the staff holds a roster spot open for the player. In Division I, teams can only have 105 roster spots. In FCS, teams can use up to 63 scholarships, and those scholarships can be distributed to up to 85 players.
There is no firm correlation between having a PWO spot and eventually getting a scholarship. If a player has financial need but is a marginal contributor, the staff may encourage him to attend on Pell Grants and minimal student loans. If a player has great grades and test scores, the staff may give him a roster spot but expect him to pay for college academically. You'll see specialists on NCAA rosters at every level who play but are not on athletic scholarship.

Qb room is getting full. Olsen reminds me of Lopez except a little taller. He is different than our other quarterbacks, this guy can flat out run. I wonder how accurate he is at passing? Navy didn’t pass the ball much.

A QB who can run will keep us in more games next year because our OL is still a work in progress, and will get blown up by capable DLs.
I watched a few FCS games this weekend. The intensity and coordination of the attack by the OL that you see in the best FCS teams just isn't a part of UNA's first string OL at this point.
My list of things to watch between now and the start of the season:
1. What other recruits/transfers will come to UNA? There should be a couple of spots available. 2. What will be done to coach up the OL? This is the hardest group to recruit in FCS. A great line doesn't magically appear. 3. What will be done to add depth to the defensive secondary? 4. Will there be surprises at other positions, e.g. RB, WR, K? 5. What will coaches do to get the whole team to buy in?

Championship teams are anchored by great offensive line play. It must be the focus moving forward to what might be the most important two seasons of UNA football ever.

We finish top 3 of the Big South this season.... I hope so! If not, the ASUN in 2022 won’t be fun.
