I saw the tweet and teared up. I was a freshman when Leo and Una got to campus. Literally got to see them "grow up". Now I take my daughter there to visit (she's 5). I can't even think of telling her this news, because I know she'll cry.
I have little use for PETA, but I’ll actually say I somewhat agree with them here. Leo has lived his entire life with a companion, and I do feel bad to think he’ll now live the rest of his life “alone”. Allowing him to be moved to a sanctuary with other lions would not be a terrible thing.
Of course, I strongly disagree with them not wanting us to get replacements. We need to start the search for Leo IV and Una II as soon as it’s practicable.
