IF we have to cut a sport or two, I wonder if we couldn’t receive a waiver from the NCAA, at least for a few years. I have to think some of these programs cutting sports like baseball plan to restart them down the road when finances are better. Football is the exception to that, just due to the massive costs involved.
Of course, depending on the NCAA doing the “right” thing is never a good strategy.

UAH is discontinuing their hockey program. Pretty hard to believe, considering the history they have.
While COVID will be the blame, I think the fact that they’re the only D1 hockey club for hundreds of miles plays a large part in it. The travel costs have to be enormous. Plus I’m sure recruiting is focused heavily on the northern states.
I know several schools in the south have club level teams, so maybe they’ll do something like that. Heck, I’d like to see UNA have one. I’m not a huge hockey fan, but have been to a Predators game and a Huntsville Havoc game. Like any sport, they can be fun when the crowd gets involved, which was the case at both games I attended.

I used to go to a few games back years ago when they were D2. My friend from HS was a hockey cheerleader. It was a fun atmosphere back then. They struggled recently to stay afloat when D2 hockey was eliminated. So, I kinda saw this one coming. Looks like they cut tennis, as well. Maybe they will keep a club team as you mentioned. Bama has one. UAH cancels ice hockey, tennis programs citing coronavirus

Multiple outlets, including BamaInsider, reported Thursday that at least five Alabama players have tested positive for COVID-19 this week. At least one of the players who tested positive for COVID-19 was in attendance for player-led workout sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. The player was asymptomatic during those sessions, which the Crimson Tide coaching staff was not involved in coordinating. Several Alabama football players test positive for COVID-19

Is North Alabama doing anything different to fight the spread of COVID in their facilities? I have not heard. I'm sure there is a plan.

I hope that’s just a one-off and doesn’t start a chain reaction. The virus HAS seemed to hit the black communities harder, for whatever reason (and Hispanic ones too, if Chattanooga is any indication). So seeing an HBCU shut it all down isn’t necessarily surprising. Honestly, the next couple of weeks will probably determine a lot as far as having a season goes. Yes, the virus is spreading - it’s what they do, and all the measures in the world were only ever going to slow it, not stop it. But death rates are down significantly from April. If the rates remain steady (or continue dropping) for the next 2-3 weeks, despite the large increase in cases, I think we may see a lot of the decision makers’ fears ease a little on moving forward with a season. If those death rates increase... you might want to plan on a different activity to occupy your fall Saturdays. My personal prediction is something like 50% fan occupancy this season, with masks required. How the games actually go will be a crapshoot since players will likely test positive for the virus and be required to set out a minimum of two weeks. The “best” teams in 2020 may be the ones who are luckiest in staying healthy.
