Based on tweet from Michael Hebert who works at TimesDaily, new WR Coach Tyler Rice has been promoted to passing game coordinator and OL Coah Zach Lisko to be running game coordinator. Is it just me, or does it seem UNA is being extremely conservative in hiring during this transition?

Is it just me, or does it seem UNA is being extremely conservative in hiring during this transition? Maybe Willis wants to try his hand at calling plays? May be a way to spread out what money the OC makes to the other coaches? Just throwing out some guesses.

What?! I'm just in shock by these lazy 'hires'.
Lisko was a Southern Arkansas defensive assistant before coming here as a defensive assistant for two years. He's been our OL-coach for two years (what have we complained about the most on this board in the past two years?) and now is the co-coordinator for the offense.
Rice is from Wayne County and barely played any college ball. He's been on the UT-Martin staff the past three years as they had two mediocre seasons sandwiching a terrible one. His bio reads "The UTM passing game went to another level in 2019 as the Skyhawks averaged 222.2 receiving yards per game" when we averaged 285 per game last season.
I hope these guys do a great job but it's a head-scratcher right now.

Sounds like a D2 coaching move and a way to save money. I hope our defense is really good if not 3 wins will be a blessing. So sad with all the good receivers we have....

While I do think we are being cheap, and likely will continue that way for at least the next 2 years, I think there's another side to look at too. How many coaches want to come here right now? We're still 2 years away from a chance at a postseason. Recruiting is still tough due to that, our sub-par stadium and facilities, etc. And yes, that coach will likely be making less money at UNA than he would at a comparable D1 job. As we sit here in March of 2020, I just don't think we are that attractive of a job to folks. I hate it, but it's the reality of this transition, and having a head coach that feels like he's just a placeholder until we have a chance to compete for championships again.
IMO, the best thing we could probably do is raid the GSC for assistants who are looking to "move up".

Money is the glaring issue right now. We are still paying D2 salaries to these coaches. Don't know how I feel about this hire fellas. We will see in the fall. ROAR LIONS

Players liked the offense, coach Willis feels they deserved the chance, ultimately he is one with his job on the line. Our talent is there for the offense if the new oline gels. Can we slow down the other offenses this year? Taylor back at linebacker helps, dline should be very solid, hoping secondary can hold and make some plays.
