The problem with the Big South football, in my opinion, is not the schools we will play, as an institution or what they are about. It's the travel disparity. The full members are in a tight footprint, they play the majority of their away games in that footprint. While UNA, KSU and Monmouth have to travel heavy, lots of plane trips. It's not that I dont think we can do it, it's more of a deal that the other schools dont have to do it as often. That a disadvantage for UNA and even KSU. I know we fly to Florida in a couple of instances, but I dont mind the footprint of the ASUN, especially without NJIT. Louisville ain't bad, and Virginia ain't bad. I tend to agree, partly because football is the marquee sport, but the ASUN for “Olympic sports” is not terrible. Especially while we are building our programs to compete in D1. I think the Big South was actually more attractive at 6 or 7 members than what they’re becoming. At least with a smaller conference schedule we were able to have the flexibility to add fun regional non-conference games. If they keep adding members - NCA&T, now potentially Robert Morris in Pittsburgh - it’s not only going to increase travel costs, but also that ability to be creative with scheduling. More than ever I just wish the NCAA would blow up conferences and start all over. Thats why I liked the Big South at 6-7 teams. Could play 2 money games if needed or load it up with Big OOC games. This year schedule is great example. BYU,VA TECH, JSU, Chattanooga, Western Illinois. Keep adding teams to Big South go from 5 OOC games to 3.

Robert Morris from Pittsburgh will begin playing Big South football in 2021. So we're now in a conference that includes schools in Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Pretty ridiculous when you consider the number of FCS teams that would literally be a 3 or 4 hour bus ride away that are in different conferences.
On a positive note, since I've been pretty negative about this issue the past few days... Pittsburgh is a pretty awesome town. We visited there a few years ago, just passing through for a few days after a wedding, but it was great. Went to a Pirates game at PNC Park, which is probably my favorite MLB stadium. If any of you get the chance to go when we play them, you should.
Finally, here's an interesting question. We already had 4 non-conference games scheduled in 2021. The Big South will have 9 members for the '21 season, after adding North Carolina A&T and Robert Morris. I assume that means 8 conference games. Unless I'm wrong, FCS teams can only schedule a max of 11 games. Wonder how that will play out for us? Will we be forced to move one of our games? Or will we get a waiver? Or will we only play 7 conference games?
