Looks like we are getting a lot of 1 or 2 year players. Will that hurt us?

I don’t follow recruiting much, but I saw the list of signees. It’s at least a little strange, to me, unless the late signing period will be almost all high schoolers. Do we want to be better in 2020? Of course. But I’d trade an 0-11 season next year for a successful one in 2022.
My only guess at the strategy is that our coaches think improving us next year makes us more attractive to guys that they will be recruiting for seasons when we’ll actually play for something. But in a perfect world I’d rather have 20 high schoolers this year that can be juniors or redshirt sophomores when our games start “counting”.
I wonder if any of these JUCO guys redshirted one year and have 3 years with us? I would definitely prefer that.

We need some immediate help at oline and secondary. We filled those needs today. We also added some help at linebacker, that group underwhelmed last year. Impressive haul at offensive line. I also hope we land 12+ high school kids in February. A lot of those kids are hoping for bigger schools to offer. Good start today. Looks like we improved in a critical area today, the oline.
Playing at Virginia Tech and BYU will be tough. Bigger stronger oline gives us a chance at a better showing. Which will definitely help attract recruits if we able to score some points and make some plays.

One OL is a high school guy.
The others are going to step in and fill roles this years freshmen were not able to do.
We also got another very good looking QB that is from high school.
All and all I like this group.
Hopefully in the regular recruiting season, we add a great RB or two.
Oh yeah, the guy from Mars Hill, had 3 or 4 FBS offers, several FCS offers and previously committed to Mercer before switching to UNA. That's a good get. I watched him play some this year, he is very good, played in a Wing-T offense, and is very physical. He would often dominate defensive linemen and LBs. It isnt very often a good OL comes from a 1 or 2A school, but he is the exception.

Is our top LB from 2018 going to come back or is he finished after getting booted for a year?

I see in the Times Daily that LB Christon Taylor has been offered a partial scholarship and so far has met requirements to be re-instated to the team.

I know we could use his talent, but has he changed whatever it was that got him dismissed in the first place? Maybe he just needed a wake-up call? I remember watching him during our portion of Big South Media Day and he seemed to be pretty mature. The coaches must have seen something in him to send him there. Hopefully whatever he did, he took steps to improve himself and learn from it.

And that makes me nervous.

On recruiting, wouldn't you want the players that give you the best chance to win right away? If you look at UNA's roster compared to others in the league last season, it lacked experience. Big time. UNA, according to the roster, had a huge class of high school players last season. You won't be able to compete if you don't have depth and experience, especially up front, so it looks like they wanted to address that need. A lot of people sort of just speak about what's going on in terms of 2022. I get why they do so, team is not eligible until then. But its not like UNA is just going to go walk in 2022 and start winning the Big South. Its about taking the steps to get there.

I didn't see but but a few parts of a few games this year. I know the secondary had a tough year but a lot of that could have been the need for them to press closer to the line of scrimmage because we didn't have taylor to help seal off the run.

Evans was a liability for us this year at times. Think when Willis talks about that group underperforming he is talking about Evans in the middle.

Evans really seemed to take s step back? Haynes eventually replaced him as a starter and seemed to be a better tackler. We must get some splash plays from linebacker. Evans had a few sacks...struggled in space and in coverage. Hope he bounces back, I was expecting him to be a difference maker for us. Signed couple of backers that look like they can help immediately and the Dawson kid will only improve.
