Is it time to put Linder on the hot seat? He's been on the job for 12 seasons now.
It scares me that he could be making more lazy hires in the near future or leave mediocre coaches in their positions just because he likes them. Many didn't care for his Bowden hire earn on.
Then, in my opinion, the promotions from within for baseball and football were extremely lazy and costing us greatly in those programs.
The jury is still out on the men's basketball hire (after letting Champagne stew in mediocrity for several seasons) and we were all screaming for Tiber to be fired before the Wallens saved her job. His recent hire in volleyball has all but tanked the program.
He lucked out with Cozart in softball after that terrible hire with the one guy - even though she was from an NAIA program. He lucked out in women's soccer, although hiring an NAIA assistant coach was very risky.
Other than that, his hires in tennis, golf, cross country, etc. haven't produced hardly any success.
It's time now, with two years left in this transition, to make the changes - across the board - that we need to be competitive in D1.
I wish we could pull Coach Wallace from UWA as our new Athletic Director and let him take us the rest of the way into D1.

You have to get into the ears of donors, the Sportsmans club members, and have them put pressure on Kitts. I will say, talking to Hilda or any of the Anderson's wont go far, they like Linder.

They must be fine with mediocrity and losing.

At least their Vols are doing great..... Oh wait..... Not their Vols anymore. They dont give much to them after the deal about Keaton not getting any attention from them.

While I agree that Linder doesn't have the greatest track record, I just personally doubt any changes will be made until at least after the transition. I'm not saying that's the right thing to do - just, the University will likely give everyone time to "sink or swim". We probably have an idea already of which coaches can and which ones can't. But I just have a feeling they don't want to spend any money that they don't have to, which would obviously be needed to fire coaches. They couldn't/wouldn't even fund a pep band for goodness sake.
The AD's job is just judged differently. Even if he seems to make poor coaching hires, he might be doing everything else right behind the scenes. Does he get the credit for some nice upgrades to Flowers? Is he getting funds together for a new football stadium? Understand I'm not trying to defend him, just saying that those things are important too.
I wish we could just push the fast-forward button on the next two and a half years so we are no longer "on probation". At that point, it will be time for everyone to start producing. No excuses.

Imagine the amounts of money a UNA legend like Wallace could raise.

Imagine the amounts of money a UNA legend like Wallace could raise. Why didnt he bring the money, or the crowds and so on when he was here the last time. I'm with you, believe me, but I think, like i have said before, he didnt want the headache that comes along with the transition. What i see, isnt a money problem. It's a growing pain right now. Yeah, we need better coaching in all sports, but let's face it, we have to build, we cant expect to start were we left off.

He did bring a run to the national title game and four consecutive conference titles before he retired from coaching.

Thanks for posting. I wonder if he is being a bit secretive about the stadium timelines, or if they are really still in what I might call a "design" phase and have no hard dates set. It's difficult to be patient, especially when both stadiums could really help recruiting in their sports. I want them done right, but I also want them to be a reality yesterday. Despite what we've discussed here and Linder's remarks, I get the feeling the football stadium may end up off-campus. Just a hunch, nothing more. I'll remain open-minded on that. Finally he confirms what I speculated earlier. I think every coach is safe for another 2 or 3 years unless their program takes a massive nosedive.

Several on this sports board and some in the community wanted the school to go after proven D1 Head Coaches (Regardless of the sport) during the transition. If you know anything about transitions there are usually more L’s than W’s. Now how many on this sports board if they had been a successful D1 Head Coach go to a place where for several years there would have L’s added to their resume instead of W’s. I think most would want to a place to have a winning record every year not a school in transition. During the announcement of the acceptance to the ASUN a question came from the news media about the coaches. It is in the 32.30 - 34.05 of the YouTube below. Also not listed in the YouTube a question came up from a person that I believe was a coach, for Linder to elaborate on the coaching situation. (I was in attendance at that meeting. youtu.be/J7t-cQ7L-FoYes, I’m upset at that huge lost to Montana after the leading at halftime and the lost to Alabama A&M after the 18 point lead at halftime. I’m upset to a point in Volleyball of losing sets in volleyball of more than 10 points I wasn’t expected for the volleyball to win many matches. During the past two seasons this school has probably lost more sets by 10 points that the previous 18 or more years combined. The volleyball team this season would probably be only in the middle of the D2 GSC.

We definitely are not good on two deep in football yet, need a very strong recruiting class next year on oline and secondary. We could use a running back or two to redshirt after Howell and Price. Have some nice pieces on dline we are redshirting...could be beasts by junior and senior years giving us a chance for conference championships/playoffs. We need some oline guys to grow into those types too. We seem to recruit wide receiver well. Looks like we got a few studs at linebacker too. Patience is tough for us fans....especially since we are used to winning. Really think the football/basketball/softball/volleyball/soccer staff has a chance to be very good. Track seems to be doing better. Golf is hanging in there. I am not sure about baseball?
