I think the site is better suited for a beautiful baseball stadium due to the fact parking will be horrendous if we draw 15,000 unless we build another large parking deck behind Flowers Hall.

I was searching Twitter trying to find an update and stumbled across this tweet from the Stetson Associate athletic director. I think the site is better suited for a beautiful baseball stadium. Parking will be horrendous if we draw 15,000 for a football game unless we build a large parking deck behind Flowers Hall.

Parking will be better than around Braly. They may have plans for a new parking deck, but I know they are planning on expanding more parking around campus. They have already built new parking areas from Waterloo road up to West Irvine.

Stadium or not, another parking deck might not be a bad idea down on Waterloo Road. The University is expecting the D1 move to bring in more students. If we go over 10k, I can’t imagine how hard it would be to find a spot. When I graduated in the mid-2000s, you were out of luck most mornings if you got there after 8:30. I doubt it’s any different now.
Remember how the existing deck was supposed to have another few stories, but folks in the neighborhood didn’t want the noise and light pollution? Shouldn’t have to worry about NIMBYs down that way. And since we’ll no doubt need more land to build on in the future, another deck would possibly free up an existing surface lot of two.

What I know so far, and i do not know what went down at the meeting.
The plans for the stadium have went through several changes. As off right now, they want to start with a 15k seat stadium with easy expansion room to 25k.
At one time it was to be built very similar to Alabama States new stadium, and someone has told me now it will be more like KSUs stadium(but bigger).
Either way, expanding the stadium would be going up with upper decks because either way they build it, it will be a bowl type stadium.
Was also told it will look like the style of buildings on campus so it will blend in. So it should not just be some cheap looking, over night, erector set looking stadium. (I wont hold my breath on that one)

(I wont hold my breath on that one) On your last point, I know that kind of brickwork can drive up the cost some. Hopefully the side facing Pine Street would at least be bricked in. I like the idea of a stadium that looks somewhat like KSU's. The new UNC-Charlotte stadium is another example of that type of construction: Charlotte Football Stadium. There's obviously room for future upper deck expansions, and in the meantime, you have large areas at the top of the stadium that would be great for tailgating or other activities.

As far as parking and tailgating, I would imagine they would shut down Pine Street through campus on gamedays to allow for parking and tailgating. Was talking about that at work(fire dept) one day, and it has been discussed with both fire, police and EMS and there seems to be no problems about that as long as there will be easy access for responding units to get access to and around campus and those parts of the city.
As far as the Charlotte stadium, I would imagine it would be very similar, but probably without the building in the endzone. We wouldn't need it because of the feild house already existing, I would use money to upgrade that current facility and save room. But then again, I guess you will need a place for the visitors to dress...
I just get nervous that somehow they will find a way to cheap out on the stadium.
Wish they would go ahead and start selling season ticket packages for the new stadium. Could help them out on getting it going.

Has anyone heard anything from the meeting yet? Or know anyone who was there?

This probably deserves its own post, but it’s extremely relevant to this discussion... City gives land to UNA for baseball/softball complex
Interesting to me is how the article refuses to mention why the baseball stadium is moving. The writer is Bernie Delinski, who has been with the TD for years. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t know about the football plans. I assume the University isn’t ready to let the cat completely out of the bag, which makes the tweet from the football twitter account all the more curious.

Wow Florence! Good on ya. Almost makes up for the stupid crap you’ve been doing for years in regards to the university. That being said... UNA needs to stick something on that land quick (a tent... tree stand... ANYTHING) before someone finds a way to screw this up or reverse it. lol

The City (not the BOE) wanted UNA to have the land that the middle school is on. And after some talking with one of our rival schools in the Easts AD, the City and UNA may be working even closer together. (And by talking to their AD, I'm not meaning me)

To be fair to football Twitter, they just retweeted a post from the SGA.

That's part of the UNA "control" they think they have. It's comical. Very 1900s.
