When I was in high school I remember Mississippi State probably sent me more mail than any school other than UNA. I considered them for a while, because I thought about going into meteorology and they have a pretty good program there. In the end I just wanted to stay at home.
Good for Liberty, but there’s something about them I just don’t like.
Mississippi State recruits this area heavily. I almost went myself. But if you know this area, and are not a lawyer(Bama) and or want to be in agriculture, but dont want to go to Auburn, Mississippi State is a logical choice. I was recruited to play defensive end under Jackie Sherrill and things happened that prevented that from happening. Funny thing was, I was too dumb back then to even consider UNA just because 3 D1 schools showed a hint of interest in me. So I ended up at Southern Miss, saw all the shady things that went on there, and decided it wasnt for me. Didnt take me long to regret not going to UNA.
Sorry, dont know why that story came out.
Point that I cant seem to make is, I kinda have a spot for Mississippi State as well, but UNA first, and to me, I have to pull for ASun schools no matter what.
I hear you. I have a soft spot for State and will pull for them against anyone in just about every case with the exception of UNA. Depending on circumstances, it's a tough call if they face an ASun. Liberty is one where it is a tough call. Guess much of it has to do with the AD and his history with Baylor and the football coach and his history at Ole Miss. So, there it is. Meanwhile, currently watching Liberty playing a tight one against VA Tech and pulling for Liberty.
Know the area very well. Talked to a friend of mine that was a grad of So Miss. earlier today. Mainly wanted to talk about our WBB versus theirs in the WIB tomorrow night. He has pretty much given up on all So Miss sports and claims the athletics have been run into the ground.
State is in much of the same situation as UNA from a "border location" standpoint. They have come a long way in the last 15 years in all areas (recruitment, academics, fund raising, and athletics)...would be a good candidate for UNA to benchmark and learn a few tricks regarding marketing the university.
