Awesome the team is getting recognized! Confidence can’t be measured in feet and inches. Exciting to read from an impartial basketball reporter that he believes we are on the fast track to be quite the force!

I think it's interesting that the writer says we are making the transition "look easy", because someone not doing their homework would probably look at our overall record and think it's been the exact opposite. But this article seems to be focused on conference play, and I think we've definitely been more impressive there than some thought we would be.
I think/hope Coach P is committed to building a program. We could have probably scheduled a lot of SWAC, Big South, and other weaker-conference teams, and maybe had a better record. What good would that do us, though? I'd love to see us finish better than .500 in the conference. I think that would be a very successful first year.

I think they just scheduled whatever games they could get. Vandy and Xavier were definitely not easy games. Yet, it's really apples and oranges. Our ladies are a cohesive team with chemistry over two/three seasons. I think they would have fared pretty well even against much tougher competition. Where our men are new to each other. I'm not so sure we would have won many more games playing weaker opponents until chemistry developed. Their schedule kinda threw them in the deep end and it was probably good to shock them into urgency. Yet, some mid-ground of this approach would have probably helped some.

Yep, the men may have benefited from the women's schedule (but maybe not until they developed as a team, like you said), and the ladies might have had a better go of it with a schedule like the men. I do wonder if it was harder for the women to find games against better teams. I think women's basketball has even more of a divide between the top teams and those closer to the bottom, than you see on the men's side. Perhaps that has something to do with it. Not sure.

I like having a strong non conference schedule, dont care what caliber team you have. it can only make the team stronger.
I read an article from FGCU a while back that was talking about non conference schedules and that basically at that time FGCU was the only ASun school scheduling a tough non conference slate. So I think that's the best way to prepare your team for either the conference slate, NIT and NCAA tournament.
And that's the way to get better recognition for the conference is to continue to play the power conferences and other top 25 schools and beats some here and there.

It will be a balancing act when it really matters. As it stands, ASUN teams pretty much have to win the conference to be invited to the NCAA Tournament. If that's what you're banking on, then a tough schedule is great. If a good ASUN team wants the chance to make it regardless of the outcome of the conference tournament, they will need a schedule that looks good on paper but also produces wins.

If a good ASUN team wants the chance to make it regardless of the outcome of the conference tournament, they will need a schedule that looks good on paper but also produces wins. I know it's not simple, but if you play higher caliber teams on a regular basis, add in being a contender for conference championships, have decent runs in the NIT and NCAA tournaments, recruiting gets better and the program gets better. If the conference as a whole does that, then the conference gets stronger and will end up putting multiple teams in the NCAA tournament, and in turn, more money for the schools and should lead to better facilities and even better recruiting. But I know its easier said than done. But I think this year, you can make a case that that's what (looks to be) going on. Liberty, UNF, FGCU, Lipscomb and UNA have all had pretty hard ooc schedules. Liberty and Lipscomb has capitalized on some of it. We was not far off from an upset or two either. But I also understand the need to build confidence, but like Pujols said, it's not going to build the program by creating false confidence.
