This year the ASun has jumped to number 20 in conference RPI vs 30 from last year out of 32 conferences. The ASun is above the OVC, Big South and slightly behind the Sun Belt and CAA.

Cool! I hadn't been paying any attention to RPI. Here's a link for all ASUN teams and if you click on us it gives you our info for each week so far. realtimerpi.com/rpi_atsun_Men.html

I feel like that’s a pretty impressive jump for the conference to make. It might be even better if not for teams like Stetson, Jacksonville, and NJIT having pretty poor schedule strength. I’d include Liberty, but I know they’ve played Bama, plus played and beat UCLA, so I’m a little surprised theirs is so bad.
Of course, there is a bit of a “vicious cycle” aspect at play here. Better teams probably shy away from scheduling ASUN schools because the conference has a reputation of having bad RPI ratings across the board, which brings down the opponent’s RPI even if they win (well “bringing it down” actually means going up, but whatever). So if the conference as a whole could stay solidly in the middle to upper reaches of the mid-major conferences, it would potentially help with scheduling better teams and eventually bring the overall play of the conference up to a higher level.
As for the women... sheesh, I didn’t realize our schedule was that bad, though I suppose I should’ve. I said a while back we could be in play for an NIT spot if we win the conference or perhaps finish second. Hope our RPI isn’t so high that even they leave us out. Of course, it’s pretty early to be worried about that.
