How come head injuries are celebrated in boxing and MMA, but we have to severely change football to prevent them?
I'm not for them? But I witness Steven A Smith and EsPN celebrating a viscous knockout, and and then chastise football players if they hit someone in the head area... its disturbing to me. I want answers.

He might be, or he might just be toeing the company line. I don’t want to sound like a “FAKE NEWS!” conspiracy theorist, but I tend to believe a lot of the “analysis” we see on ESPN is carefully scripted. I don’t take anything said on there or on Twitter too seriously. But despite that, I think there is a legitimate difference. Guys that get into MMA know the extremes they’ll be putting their bodies through. Now obviously football players should understand they might be doing the same thing. The difference is there ARE safer ways to tackle a man that can minimize the risk of injury (but not eliminate it, of course). However, there is simply no safe way to kick a man in the head or try to bash his brain with your fists. If ESPN is going to cover MMA the same as other sports, it’s counterproductive for them to talk about how awful it is. I don’t have much of a problem with them advocating for safer football - though there’s no doubt that guys like Stephen A. Smith are mostly too unlikeable to do a good job of swaying people to their side. The quality of the analysts is a whole ‘nother topic, I’m afraid.

Yeah, it's extremely serious. I started a very detailed thread on this topic on the D2 off-topic board a few months back. It troubles me that, between football (along with other contact sports) and the military, we basically use these men and women for our entertainment and safety and then release many back into the general population of society with brain injuries.

I hope nobody thinks I'm taking brain injuries less seriously, it just pissed me off that on one sport, it's okay and often celebrated ro beat someone in the head repeatedly, and the other sport you are vilified if you happen (even by accident) to hit someone in the head area. Why dont they impose rules in Boxing and MMA that you cant hit the opponent in the head? Body shots only?
As far as football is concerned, I think Lee Corso was right, take the facemask off or the helmets all together and you will have less head injuries. The reason, people naturally dont want to get hit in the face with no protection.
