We know we have always considered JSU our Biggest rival. So that is no question. But we have always had several all sports rivalries.
We put UWA, UAH, VSU and Delta on the back burner for now, let's look into our (old) new rivals and target some new ones.
My personal list is this (and why)
1- JSU (do you really need an explanation?)
2- AA&M (close to us, traditional rival, though has not been that competitive in history)
3- Troy (get to play them in everything but football for the time being. Traditional Old GSC rivalry)
4- KSU (will likely turn into a monster rivalry because they usually recruit the Shoals and North Alabama a lot in all sports. We are in the same conference(s) and are in neighboring states.)
Potential for big rivals Chatty (hopefully this becomes an every year game in football, and hopefully all common sports, good close (relatively) drive for both sets of fans. Call it the TVA bowl or something.)
South Alabama (for obvious reasons as well)
What are y'alls opinions? Would you add or take away?

Ment to add about Chattanooga, a lot of people who was born and raised in the Shoals live and work in the Chattanooga area. Or have lived there and moved back. If you take our usual travelers to games, add the ones that would go because its close enough for a day trip, and the fans that live there, it has potential for a big Lion contingency at Chattanooga home games.

I look at this Chatty game as a big opportunity to generate interest and good will throughout North Alabama. Think of this as a reverse direction Trail of Tears. Starting in the Florence area. Area alumni clubs along the trail could be involved in arranging rest/pep rally stops along the way. Folks from Decatur, Cullman, and points South could join up in Madison/Huntsville area. Folks flying flags fro their cars. Folks buying gas, good, and snack along the way. Crowd growing and gathering as they head to Scottsboro for another stop and then on into Chatty. Opportunity to let folks know this is the team of the North Alabama region. Ah well...let's dream big! Rivals: Chatty- Battle for the River AA&M- Hi-way 72 Rumble JSU- Fight for the Chicken Wing Kennesaw State- the Battle for the West Samford- Big South/SoCon rivalry Troy, UAB, USA- just proud to play FBS Group of 5.

We need an alumni group up here. I don’t think we have one. But I’ll admit, I’m bad about keeping up with those kind of things. I’m not the most sociable person in the world. I prefer just being with the wife and kid most of the time. I have seen UNA stickers on cars a few times, and even honked or given a thumbs up on occasion. I have a sticker and an alumni tag on my own car. I see Alabama 20 or 41 tags around here pretty often. I always assume it’s folks doing something for TVA. This is is obviously the one that I hope becomes a HUGE rivalry. The football Mocs have been a decent, but not great team over the past decade (and this is honestly probably been the best decade in their history). Their other sports are definitely at a level where we should be able to compete with them right now. Fun fact: due to Title IX, they don’t have a baseball team. My my only disagreement with the list is A&M. I have a fear that they won’t want to keep us on the schedule. Maybe I’m wrong. I’d enjoy seeing their sports improve as a whole and it be another fierce rivalry.

I'll add one more - Lipscomb. They are pretty good in men's basketball and softball. Women's basketball and baseball weren't great last year, but overall I feel they have a solid athletic program. They're only a 2.5 hour drive from the Shoals, so there's no reason some of our fans couldn't make that trip. This one, to me, has the potential to be our biggest conference rivalry outside of football.

Thanks for pointing it out. We have already had a championship game against them, and from what I was told, a big group of fans went to watch.

Back in the late 80’s and into the 90’s when Wayne Byrd was The Women’s Basketball Coach, Lipscomb was on the Women’s Schedule just about every season. Our record against them is 3 - 12.

Lipscomb will be our new UAH. Non-football but very competitive in other sports.

Lipscomb will be our new UAH. Non-football but very competitive in other sports. I think that would be great. The UAH rivalry was a lot of fun, and selfishly I wish they could move up to D1 with us. Lipscomb filling that void would be great. I wonder if Lipscomb still recruits heavily down in this area? I assume they did back in the late 90s at least, because I remember a lot of the athletes at my high school wearing their gear. I assume it was due to them taking recruiting visits and getting some free swag.

I think Kennesaw will become our biggest rival simply because they are the only school in our conference(s) for all teams.

I think Kennesaw will become our biggest rival simply because they are the only school in our conference(s) for all teams. And they are only around 4 hrs away. They do a lot of recruiting in North Alabama and the Shoals.

If Kennesaw is going to start being a rivalry, since we play them in all sports, we need to show up every time we play them at home... it will start with basketball, let's make a point to show up, be loud, and encourage every UNA fan we know to show up as well. Get drunk (but don't drive) if you have to so you can loosen up and be loud. Heck, I'm willing to tailgate for a basketball game if yall are. Let me know.

Will we throw UAB in as a potential rivalry? Especially after Softball took care of them?

Lipscomb will be our new UAH. Non-football but very competitive in other sports. I think Lipscomb is becoming a rivalry, from what I could tell, we had several UNA fans at the Liberty basketball game's, soccer had a few as well. But what I saw the other day proved it. While in Nashville for one of my, "I'm bored, I think I'll take a drive up the trace" days, I ran into a guy, maybe 20 years old, he stopped me in a gas station and said, "UNA huh?" Pointing at my hat, "I'm glad yall are with us, there is a little more excitement on campus since yall are so close. Yall are already considered one of our rivals." So I said good, ROAR LIONS.... and walked away.

So I said good, ROAR LIONS.... and walked away. That’s awesome. I’ve wondered how much of a fan base they have in the Nashville area. I’m sure not having football hurts them with casual, non-alum sports fans. Hopefully the students can become interested in these games, too. Not to one-up your story, but I actually had a guy at a store here in Chattanooga point out my UNA hat last week and say he’s originally from the Shoals. He said it was the first time he’d seen someone wearing UNA stuff around here. I admit I haven’t seen a lot, but have a time or two. I know several UNA alums personally that live here, since my old employer made a habit to hire folks from our program. Maybe I should organize a local alumni chapter, ha.
