Dr. Kitts... As someone who's put thousands of dollars into UNA/FSU over more than 50 years, I was very excited when you were named the new President of the school and you have done some great things, especially supporting the move to Division 1, and some, not so good things like choosing the weakest radio station in America to spread the news about UNA athletics.
But unfortunatley, it apears that you may not be any different from all the other transients who've came and gone before you when it comes to our traditional school colors.
The most egregious mistake has been your support of changing the school colors, unilaterally. Far too often academics don't realize just how invested athletics are. I've supported the purple and GOLD since the mid-sixties as a fan, student and father of two UNA graduates. But to watch the continuing disenfranchisement of supporters, aged 40 and older.
It finally became too much with the beginning of this season. I have joined thousands of others who no longer support UNA in any way including not attending athletic events. It's been a horrible three months but as with anything else, I'm getting used to it.
I don't know if you're familiar with an unwritten rule called "Support the Laundry" but it should be a written rule. Players, students, teachers and administrators come and they go but we still have our colors. Well, we USED to.
The systematic attack on GOLD is reprehensible to tens of thousands of long time fans, supporters and donors. Yes I know there is a faint hint of GOLD that can be seen if you're down on the field or court but from the stands, we feel like we are watching the Northwestern wildcats. We are so OFFENDED, when roarlions.com tells us our colors this week are purple and white. They are NOT OUR colors and never will be!
I know this all started because a coach was superstitious about GOLD on the football uniforms. Bobby and I have been good friends for many years but we didn't see eye to eye about ending the use of gold on the uniforms but he too was a transient and didn't care about those of us who've stuck it out through thick and thin for decades and there was a LOT of thin over the years.
It has gradually gotten to the point that an outsider would think our colors are purple, black, gray and white. Disgusting. Eventually, you will be moving on as well but WE need to keep OUR colors. I used to think of us as the "Alabama" of D2 but you don't see Alabama resorting to gimmicks like wearing black or gray or green. They will be the Crimson and white forever and wear it proudly, just like we SHOULD be the purple and GOLD forever.
What could be next? Purple and orange? Purple and red? You don't know what's next anymore! I've always loved UNA but like thousands of others, I resent being disrespected by the university. The school's decisions have resulted in my loyalties switching to Alabama full time. I, and thousands of others, no longer have a choice.
We won basketball National Championships wearing ALL GOLD much like another perenial champion, the Los Angeles Lakers. Maybe you should think about this. Football attendance has remained stagnant for a couple of decades. Basketball attendance is over 4,000 less than it was when we wore the GOLD. Just think if those thousands of fans were encouraged to come back. Right now you are obiviouly losing as many as you are gaining so give us back what we deserve....
GIVE US BACK OUR GOLD! Thank you,
Kenneth Perkins I bleed purple and GOLD

I’m not to the point of ending support for my alma mater, but I’m just as frustrated. I tweeted a few of the university accounts last night about the uniforms. I suppose I need to write some higher-ups as well.
And hey, I’m 35, so it’s not entirely the over-40 crowd that is upset about this. I’m a traditionalist when it comes to most things.

I know there have been basketball uniforms in the past that were gold but there has never been a football uniform in UNAs history that was gold. The football staff has made it a priority to incorporate more gold into the uniforms but you must be aware that gold is our schools accent color, not primary color. I have never seen an all gold adidas football or basketball uniform. It would be a cool idea of being the first but we would have to take that up with the adidas officials

Gold has a decent representation on them. I wouldn’t mind an alternate gold helmet, or gold pants, both of which we’ve worn in the past (though it’s starting to become the distant past). There’s no excusing the current basketball uniforms. If you look at what both the men and women wore last night, the unis could have EASILY used gold instead of the ridiculous black on the men’s, and the white trim on the women’s. Why use black and white instead of gold? And basketball teams were using “alternate” uniforms long before football teams started wearing something different every week. I posted pics in the basketball subforum of Otis Boddie wearing a gold uni from the 70s. I’m not asking to wear it every game, but it has been done and could easily be done again. Heck, we had an all gray uniform the last few years - why? Nobody wants gray. All that being said, I’d take swapping the gold for the black and white and be happy as a clam. I don’t know if these coaches/administrators think this attracts recruits, or drives more merchandise sales, or what. But I wish the university would exert some control and limit the use of anything outside purple/gold/white. There’s no reason we can’t make that work for us.

I can say football has a tremendous amount of gold in their uniforms since the 90s. And honestly that wasn’t gold that they wore, it was like a mustard yellow color. Yes maybe basketball could add gold but you can’t blame Pujols for something the previous coach decided to go with.

Purple is the primary, Gold a Secondary and grey and white accent colors. You dont have to have solid Gold uniforms but there needs to be a good amount incorporated. And I dont like the mustard yellow or (LSU) yellow. My opinion is these football uniforms are the best I have seen, also like the helmet combos, but would love to see a Gold helmet with a purple stripe like the 50's style. (Basically Penn State style) and keep it in the rotation.

A gold helmet similar to Georgia techs would be cool to see. The picture of Otis Boddie someone posted on the message board, they wore the yellow colored uniforms. You just don’t see many actual old gold uniforms other than the old gold just being accents on purple or white uniforms. You should see how much helmets. Coach Willis will wear anything as long as he has it in the budget. He is all about honoring the old teams from the past like he has done before. Those things aren’t cheap, especially helmets. Gold pants are cheaper but he does a good job representing the past teams with the budget he currently has. I know him personally, and he would wear anything as long as he can afford it. Some things are more important like paying coaches, recruiting, and redoing the lockerrooms.

That would be almost as chitty as purple and white! They had the LSU purple and GOLD scheme. Also, No one has ever accused the Lakers or Packers of wearing mustard. Usually they are just called the best unis in pro sports. For several years, the Lions wore solid GOLD in basketball (and went to three final fours and won a National Championship. So much for the curse or whatever Bobby was afraid of) and because it was a fairly light color which allowed them to wear them at home and on the road. Also when you say your colors are purple and GOLD, that means white is the accent color. Maybe that's why the transients are trying to make us buy into "our colors are purple and white."

That's why so many people prefer yellow GOLD rings instead of old GOLD. To me, old gold just looks like dirty uniforms but I would even prefer them a thousand times more than purple overdose we've been bombed with for so long. UGLY.

I’m just saying in the past there was no actual gold color in any of the UNA uniforms. They were all yellow. Now if you were arguing that the color in the past was yellow, I’d agree but that’s not the case. You can’t say you miss the gold if there never was any gold in the uniforms in the past

That explains it. In the 1960s and into the 70s, we wore the old GOLD which (in my opinion, looks shabby and like we forgot to wash our uniforms. I know because I was there. In the 80s we switched to yellow GOLD and immediately had the sharpest unis in D2. I know because I was there. Now some of you seem to be stuck on this silly idea that there's no such thing as yellow GOLD, completely forgetting about... Green Bay Packers. Team colors, Dark green, GOLD.... The Los Angeles Lakers colors are Lakers Purple, GOLD Pittsburgh Pirates official colors are black, GOLD (yellow) and white...
If anyone has ever seen these legendary teams play, they would know the GOLD these teams wear is YELLOW GOLD.
