I'm encouraged but not thrilled when thinking back on this season.
After covering the GSC all season, I think the Lions would have finished about the middle of the pack. I mean, UWF wound up 5th and we beat 6, 8, and 9.
Looking at our FCS opponents, of course, NDSU is still top-ranked and undefeated. That game, alone, gave me some hope about the future.
Other than that, Southern Utah is currently 1-9, A&M is 5-5, Campbell is 6-4, and JSU is 5-4.
We just didn't play much competition this year. I'm crossing fingers for a very productive offseason on the recruiting trail and in regards to conditioning/team building/discipline.
Having a returning QB will be a big plus. Although, I wish we could have seen the backup a bit more.

Although, I wish we could have seen the backup a bit more. Too bad we lost that game against Incarnate Word, since they would’ve ended up being probably the second-best team on our schedule. I think this team mostly played to their level of competition. I know NDSU never feared losing their game against us, but we hung in there. Probably should’ve beaten UWF. Campbell was the oddball really. I still wonder how we might have done if we go over there on Friday and don’t rush through game day. Ah well. I guess you could also say we were a play or two from losing to Southern Utah and A&M. Next year we we might have a better team but a worse record. Things are about to get a lot tougher. Hope the coaches are hitting the recruiting trail tomorrow. Or maybe tonight.

7-3 this year better than the record of last year. We are s work in progress but I reckon this is to be expected. Excited about the coming year. Some good teams on the schedule. Some new places to visit. All FCS games. It'll be fun and we will have a home in the BigSouth. I saw one deficiency with the BigSouth this year. Hopefully it can get corrected in the off season. This was in the area of officiating. BigSouth officiating left a lot to be desired. I'm not saying they favored any one team over the other, just saying they were somewhat inept at times. Yesterday's game was pretty chilly but overall great football weather. Take the win, take the season...good start in this new FCS world. ROAR LIONS!

On the officiating, is that from you watching their games? I thought our refs yesterday were pretty bad. The radio guys said it was an OVC crew.

Then again, I did not know that was an OVC crew yesterday. I assumed it was Big South. So, if I made the same erroneous assumption at other times..well, I'll eat my words.

Yeah, other than Campbell (which I assume was Big South), it appears we had a hodge-podge of refs this season. I know in one game where our players acted out so much (APU game?) that it was OVC refs with Big South line crew. Or that's what I was told, if I recall correctly. I could be wrong on that but I'd be curious to know for sure. Can anyone shed light on who our refs were this season?

Shouldn’t be any let down games next year....our team even though new D1 team....still did not care about playing any of the D2 games. We didn’t let any D1 team run it right up the middle and score, only happened in D2 games. Being part of a conference and all D1 games should be exciting for team/coaches and managers. Unfortunately in the state of Alabama as long as Alabama is winning, our crowds will be just ok. We are going to have to win Big South Conference championship and make the playoffs in a couple of years. Maybe by then Saban retires and the timing will be right? Excited for the future, got a lot of reasons to be excited....

I agree, the less than average college football fan may not care about who we play, but people who pay attention dont give a crap about playing Shorter and North Greenville. May not give a crap about a few FCS schools, but the majority they will. I am more excited about next season than I have been in a while.
