Gonzaga basketball sets dates for Kraziness in the Kennel, FanFest and players’ appearances at Hoopfest
Gonzaga’s 2018-19 men’s basketball schedule is nearly complete. The Zags will entertain North Dakota State (Nov. 26), North Alabama (Dec. 28) and Cal State Bakersfield (Dec. 31) at the McCarthey Athletic Center. Those three additions leave one opening for the upcoming season. North Alabama is beginning a four-year transition to Division I this season. The Lions, who have a new head coach in Tony Pujol, are members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. They finished 15-13 last season, including a 10-10 record in their final season in the Division II Gulf South Conference.

Looks like football and basketball is going to be mid-west to west quite a bit. But hey, I'm lovin it.

NDSU in football, Gonzaga in basketball....not afraid of taking on the big uns. Great! That's what it will take if we want to grow up in D1.

Whoa!
Southern Miss football used to use the slogan “anyone, anytime, anywhere”. Looks like we’re bringing the same attitude with our football and basketball schedules.
Just hope we can pull off a few upsets with all these big matchups.

Where basketball has a definite advantage over football and a decent advantage for baseball is if the shooters and hitters get hot and the opponents have an off night, it can happen. Football is much different.

Looks like football and basketball is going to be mid-west to west quite a bit. But hey, I'm lovin it. Gonads has risen to be a big deal but just think when we get to play in Pauley Pavilion or Rupp Arena or Cameron indoor Stadium! Very likely to happen considering how quickly we are landing big time D1 games when we are still tecnically D2.

Technology we are D1 as of tomorrow, with the transition added to it, but we count as D1 games.

We need to let comments like this serve as motivation to this year's Lions basketball team. If we can stay out of the bottom five with a team fulll of newcomers, that will be considered a success.
The view of a Gonzaga prognosticator: "That isn’t the case this year. Although North Dakota State, Cal State Bakersfield, and Denver aren’t exactly household names, they are perfectly fine tune up opponents for the schedule. The one question mark will be North Alabama, who is making the jump to Division I sports starting next season. There is a good chance, based on that alone, they could be one of the worse teams in the nation."

It's good motivation, but probably not an unreasonable take. I get much more peeved when I see football writers who do little or no research and predict we should be awful and get blown off the field by the likes of Campbell. Our own history and the history of top D2 teams against middling FCS teams shows that's likely not going to be the case. Technically we probably SHOULD be the worst D1 team in basketball, just based on the jump and the fact we've been a mediocre to sometimes bad team for the past few years. That's what makes me so excited, to be honest. I want to see what Coach Pujol and all these new guys can do. We're probably looking at some blowouts, but I just want to see us compete and improve as a team by the end of the year.

We, along with anyone else will know where we will be when the season starts. We have 2 players that helped beat South Alabama last year plus a bran new head coach (that coaches to win, not just to show improvement) and 7 bran new players who have never played D2, let alone D1 ball before. It will be interesting TV o say the least. Will we be the worst team in D1? I doubt it. Will we be upper middle class in D1? I doubt that too.

That post was just for this year, not my prediction for the future of UNA basketball.

New coach, pretty much all new players, and unknown chemistry. How could any analyst make a call on this team? I would reckon the prognosticator looked at last year's record and phoned it in. If our coach is involved in game scheduling, every thing I read and hear says he is, then he knows what he is getting into. It seems he welcomes a challenge and I like that. It shows he is confident in his abilities and I really like that. Finally, it shows he has a plan and the knowledge to know how to get it done and I very much like that. Good bulletin board material. Could well be a mistake to sleep on the Lions...this year. Can't wait to see!
