Duke University Cameron Indoor Stadium - Capacity 9,314 Student Population - 14,832 (undergrads + grads) .....just saying Yeah and coach K wasn't a hot name when he came to Duke. He was almost fired before he got the program turned around. If you can get a good coach who's not looking to leave at the drop of a hat, and five pretty good players, you're gonna win a fair amount of games. Throw in a ringer and you'll win a lot of games. Add a large and rowdy crowd like we had in the '70s and you will really thrive!

Other than vending and restrooms, and the fact that Flowers looks like it is still in the 1970's, I love Flowers. We need to update it, and that's what's happening. I like the idea of having a second, larger arena, for big games, and they don't have to be a nationally recognized game per say, even if we lure an SEC program to play in Florence, we need the bigger arena. Point being is, a huge population of the area will show up, fans of neither school will show up just because. Peaple around hear are (for the most part) social sheep, they do things just because someone else is doing it. If you don't believe me, go to a high school football game in Lauderdale County, and I hate to say it, most UNA football games. Just there to socialize and be seen. But UNA can use that to their advantage, buts in seats are tickets sold, and mixed in you can make Luke warm fair weather fans into hard core fans.
Side note, I figured out the other day, I'm rubbing off on some non alumni Alabama and Auburn fans. My youngest sons 2nd birthday was the other day, so we had a get together. Most everyone, maybe 20 peaple, had UNA shirts or hats on. I noticed it and had to ask, "Y'all usually are wearing UA or AU stuff, what's the deal?" They said the talking I have done about taking UNA more seriously and the fact that UNA is OUR local school had rubbed off on all of them. Yeah, they would still talk about UA and AU stuff, but they was also talking and asking about UNA. Positivity is contagious, so is negativity. Be positive about this transition and people will pay attention.

Funny thing is, Bill Jones' fiery coaching style, ripping off his sports coat, throwing it on the court and stomping on it while chewing the refs really wound up the crowd to the point of chaos. I don't know if today's fans would like that but his style really kicked that program into gear. Then they started getting many D1 caliber players to go along. Twas a great decade for basketball at UNA.

Twas a great decade for basketball at UNA. I think basketball has more of a chance than football to capture that spirit again, mostly because of what Brandon said. Yeah, football is the social event. Basketball brings out smaller crowds but people that are interested in, you know, actually being involved in the game. Obviously having a good product on the floor will bring in more people. But I know a lot of HUGE sports fans that just don’t give basketball a chance. And hey, that’s their prerogative. I do think we can still use Flowers and hopefully grow the program to the level where we need that new arena. I mean, if a Coach Pujol can get us to where we NEED that new arena due to so much interest in UNA basketball, hopefully the man gets a lifetime contract. I’d love to see it.

I agree we can still use Flowers. My point was, let's not support buildinG a smaller Ag Center just in case we do have the right people with the right mindset about athletics running the show now at UNA. Also it won't be a basketball only facility. There's concerts (which by the time they get it built, all of my favorite entertainers will have called it a day) rodeos, motocross, NBA preseason games, pretty season college basketball tournaments Hit Capital Of The World Classic, Big River Showdown etc. There are plenty of D1 schools within a 200 mile radius to have a great tournament every year and help fill those new hotel rooms.

Thought I’d link this in case anyone missed it. I almost did myself. I don’t share their optimism just because land has been purchased, but I’m hoping for a good outcome. Does anybody know if the “main building” they keep talking about is the arena? Link: Ag center moves quietly toward construction

Is the part where they talk about Northwest Shoals and then The University of Alabama a mistake? I thought it was between Lauderdale County, Northwest Shoals, and UNA.
