I wish we could get into the Southern Conference. Or just go Sun Belt with Troy!

GSC Commissioner Nate Salant was caught by surprise when told of the news. “I am speechless,” he said. “I knew the OVC was meeting and I expected to hear something. I was not certain of what the outcome would be.” TimesDaily article: www.timesdaily.com/stories/OVC-decides-not-to-expland,184497 Salant said he wants UNA to stay in the GSC. “We value UNA,” he said. “It is one of our flagship programs. We want UNA to help us as we continue to repopulate the conference with high quality institutions. I hope we can provide them with a great place to play and high quality of football, basketball and all sports across the board.”

I wish we could get into the Southern Conference. Or just go Sun Belt with Troy! I wanted the SoCon from the beginning. It's a much better conference. But the travel will be pretty tough.

JSU did this at first. I don't see why we couldn't. ASun was mentioned by Linder in a recent article.

Interesting route that we could take. What about something really crazy like meeting up with other former D2 schools in the Great West?
North Dakota South Dakota UC Davis
Other football schools are Southern Utah, Cal Poly and Houston Baptist in 2014. Team, pep band, cheerleaders and fans fly to the up-to-three away games (mainly paid for by the money you earn from scheduling a couple of big boys).
We could then fill out the schedule with some closer FCS schools.

In the Board Meeting today, Pres. Cale and Linder spoke of how it's not over with the OVC and we have other options. Fundraising at 1.5 M on target for 2M this year.

Maybe it's time for the fans and alumni to get involved in this conference thing. What Conference do we want to be in??

What are the options?
I think they're still exploring two routes to DI:
Option A: OVC Invite
We'll see what the OVC Presidents say in their next meeting, but if they put us off much longer we will have to look elsewhere.
Option B: A-Sun and affiliate with another football conference.
But which one? There are several options including Big South (Bham Southern was in it before going D3), Southern (Samford's conference), Pioneer (OVC Morehead St. also A-Sun Jacksonville and in 2013 Mercer & Stetson will join) or Great West - which is all over the country with reigning football champ North Dakota State.

I'm reading that 4 out of 5 benchmarks have been met for reclassifying. Any word on our conference affiliation?

I'm ready to know something, but that's just the fan in me being impatient.

Good article in the Times Daily about projected Freshman enrollment at UNA for Fall 2012. The move to D1 is mentioned as one of the reasons for the increase. When a Conference affiliation is announced the excitement will really begin.

So, the deadline for leaving after this season has passed. I guess we're in the GSC for 2 more years for sure.
