Riverfront park in Sheffield would be a good place. Unlike Florence, they would APPRECIATE it. Except nobody wants to drive across the river for some reason. Everyone thinks it's a wall that separates Florence from every thing else.

Around 1981, Time Magazine had an article about the Shoals. It was mainly about the "Wet-Dry" issue. They pointed out that Colbert County is where smelly industry was but the high paid personel lived across the river in Florence. Florence was in favor of Colbert County going wet so liquor would be readily available but they didn't want sales and nightclubs in their city.
For most of my 58 years, Florence has always thought their stuff don't stink and looks down their noses at others even though they really had nothing to brag about but UNA. NOW that things have loosened up over the years and they are experiencing some growth, they've decided they can kick UNA around a little. Afterall, what are they going to do? Move to Colbert County? I say if the "stick-in-the-muds don't respect our athletics, let's move! The new arena is out of Florence (too bad it isn't further) so if an on-campus football stadium can't be done, I'm sure Colbert County would cut us a sweetheart deal.

As a Florence native, most of this sounds right, yet I still want to be offended Humans are just weird. Being from Florence is so much better than Muscle Shoals, am I right? But oh, you're from East Florence? Well North Florence is SO much better than East Florence. It's not too long before you have two people who live on the same street arguing over which side is nicer. I agree that including Colbert County in more things would be a great idea. Of course, I'm weird in that I think we should reach out more to all of North Alabama. I mean, we aren't Florence State anymore, and not Shoals Tech either, last time I checked. Riverfront Park actually sounds like it would be an ideal place.

Watching Stetson and Jacksonville play in the NCAA baseball regionals, I know it was mentioned that one of their stadiums was located off campus and I think on the other side of town. I want to say it was Stetson. The announcers were real impressed with the facility and mentioned that the people in area turned out for their games. 'Course I know the other side of some towns is not much distance when compared to other towns. Yep Hoomans is weird and we will do that kind of back and forth. I live in Madison and see it all the time (Madison vs Huntsville, etc...). This whole area, and I'm not just talking Huntsville-Madison-Decatur-Athens, but rather the Tennessee Valley-North Alabama area would be so much better off by finding ways to work together. This is a region, that when it comes to tourism, could compete with any area of the country. Not knocking Florence State University but I kinda like that my alma mater's name is The University of North Alabama. Sitting over here, well...I can remember Decatur of Morgan county jumping the river to claim Calhoun College and the GM Steering facility in Limestone County. Recently Huntsville jumped the river to claim land in Morgan County opposite Ditto Landing. Reckon bridges can be used for this procedure... as long as another city is not already sitting on the land so, Florence can't participate in this type of move. Done ramblin'.
