It would be interesting to hear Stephanie Redecki's opinion about the addition of beach volleyball to intercollegiate athletics at UNA.

She's been there too long to not have given it her blessing. Otherwise, I don't think we'd have added it.
I think it's great, especially since it's in the Olympics. The potential to have a player in the Olympics is a pretty cool. Could open them up for some international recruiting like we do in soccer.

International recruiting could be great to jumpstart this sport at UNA. Australia, Brazil, etc.

Alright! Beach volleyball rivalry with Jax State! That's shaping up to be a fun league. Is there any word on where we'll play home matches? I'm interested in what kind of facility we will build (I guess?) for this. I suppose it doesn't have to be on the water, but it makes too much sense to not do it that way. So maybe something at McFarland Park? Though McFarland has a tendency to flood, so perhaps somewhere like Veterans Park? I imagine there needs to be permanent locker rooms built, though bleachers could probably be just your typical metal set that doesn't have to have a "permanent" installation. As much as we all probably tire of having to cooperate with the City of Florence on these things, a partnership here might not be a bad idea. Let the City start a rec league for junior/high schoolers and give us a local "farm system" that we can recruit from. Seems like a win-win situation.

But after the Braly/Florence Middle School fiasco, I think UNA will be hesitant about deals with the City anymore.

Yeah, I would like to go to the negotiating table with the attitude of "Here's something that you guys (the City) could benefit from, if interested..." But, have a solid backup plan if they don't meet the demands we have. Unfortunately that would probably mean having a facility somewhere other than riverside, but if that's what it takes, so be it.
I get that this sport isn't going to be super popular, but it would be nice to hear some more details about our plans. We're supposedly fielding a team next season.

I watched some of the championships on TV recently. It was cool. They referred to the "team finals" in Orange Beach and then this was "doubles" finals out in California, which seemed very Olympic-style. I want to watch some of the team finals.
This is cool!

Riverfront park in Sheffield would be a good place. Unlike Florence, they would APPRECIATE it.
