In the football section I posted about the Big South teams and a brief summary of what to expect. I admit I don't follow other conferences outside of football, so if anyone can help out and give some points of interest about the teams in the A-Sun, it would be appreciated. I do know that FGCU made the sweet sixteen in Basketball ball a few years ago and Kennesaw State made the post season in baseball. Other than that??? Please share.

Just heard that it's more than likely going to be that the Northeast Conference (NEC) is about to invite NJIT in the near future. Good news for us because we don't have to go to New Jersey, bad news is one less conference game. Who would replace them? I assume West Florida is about to be invited, but I think another current D1 school needs to be invited. Is any D1 school in a situation that the A-Sun is a better fit?

I'm thinking that Nova Southeastern will be added before West Florida.

Interesting fact about the A-Sun.
Outside of the Power 5 conferences, the A-Sun is the most aired conference by ESPN. At least that's what the A-Sun is saying in the A-Sun 2016 2017 season review video on YouTube.

Interesting conversation I had with a Bama State alum today, he said that there is talk among Bama State people that they are considering leaving the SWAC and joining the A-Sun/Big South. Anyone else hear this, and what do y'all think?

For most people airing is on the tube either by the three networks or ESPN not any Branch of ESPN.

Anyone else hear this, and what do y'all think? Yes I believe that both Alabama State and Alabama A&M are planning on leaving the SWAC. It will probably be a package deal to the MEAC. Some are saying the OVC, I believe their supporters are divided. Like I mention in the Football section I would like to see Alabama A&M not carry their football to the MEAC, but have the football in the Big South. The Big South needs football schools. Neither raid other conferences to get associates in football or get a school that is in the process of moving.

He said they have been talking about it since UNA got invited. Plus they don't like the SWAC anymore. But the way he made it sound is that they are only considering the A-Sun/Big South deal. Don't know about A&M.

Didn't Alabama State build a swanky new football stadium recently? If they're serious about a competitive football program, it seems playing in the SWAC could hold them back (since I don't believe their teams choose to participate in the FCS playoffs).
I'd love to have both ASU and A&M in the Big South.

The SWAC is dropping the SW SWAC championship game and some don't like it. But I also read that ASU is still going to play the Turkey Day Classic against Tuskegee every year and that's in the playoffs. So maybe they aren't really looking at a move? I don't know. Just rumors.

The winners of the respective Conferences will play Against each other on the 3rd Saturday in December in the Celebration Bowl. The winner of the Celebration Bowl will be known as the Black College National Champion. Not sure if Alabama State will be allowed to play in both the Turkey Day Classic and the Celebration Bowl,

The ASU schedule says they are playing Cheyney in the game this year. It also lists the SWAC title game and the Celebration Bowl. bamastatesports.com/schedule.aspx?path=footballAhh, SWAC title game gone after this season. www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2017/06/swac_to_end_conference_footbal.html

Looking over a few website notes from the recent past and saw Ted Gumbart (commish of the A-Sun) had said after the A-Sun/Big South deal happened that they would like to expand to no more than 10 teams, and they have to be the right fit.
So I have been thinking and researching hard the past few days and this is the list and possible scenarios that I think can happen, with the most likely first.
1- assuming NJIT stays, Delaware State gets an invite, but will likely turn it down. But I almost think the A-Sun has to invite them, they are public about wanting out of their current conference and play football in the Big South, but they also want the other sports in the A-10.
2-Still assuming NJIT stays, West Georgia gets the invite. The A-Sun has to make the situation more appealing for Kennesaw St. Bringing us in helped, bringing in a state school could put them in concrete.
3- IF NJIT gets an invite to another conference, I look for West Georgia and West Florida to get in, bringing it to 10. Also solidifying the Big South in football (I'll get to that shortly)
4-Say West Florida don't take, or for some reason don't get an invite, I have heard something really interesting, VMI alum and donors wants back in the Big South for Football since the A-Sun/Big South deal happened and Liberty leaving in football helped them. So the A-Sun could invite them and that's that. Even if West Florida took it, VMI would probably be welcome back to the Big South with open arms.
So this it what I see within the next 10 years in the A-Sun UNA LIPSCOMB KSU USC UPSTATE STETSON JACKSONVILLE FGCU NORTH FLORIDA WEST GEORGIA WEST FLORIDA
Pretty nice non-football conference if you ask me.
Solid football conference too UNA KSU UWF UWG CHARLESTON SOUTHERN CU PRESBYTERIAN G.W. *VMI* #STETSON#
(VMI outside chance while Stetson is a strong possibility to add scholarship football in the near future) Assuming Monmouth finds a better fit for them. If not add them, but I think they will.
